Water boil notice lifted for Chemstrand Road region of Ensley

Update, Thursday, 9:40 a.m.:

On Thursday morning, the Emerald Coast Utilities Authority announced the boil water has been lifted. Results of all independent bacteriological samples have returned as clear.

Original story:

Construction activities are being blamed for a break in an 8-inch water main that has forced the Emerald Coast Utilities Authority to issue boil water notices for several residences in northern Escambia County.

The impacted areas include addresses on Chemstrand Road, Topeka Road, Kaylyn Road, Lost Oak Drive, Barker Street, Crum Avenue, Sabrina Drive, Polo Terrace and Derby Lane.

The notice, an ECUA press release said, was issued as a part of the standard protocol following any loss of water pressure, whether as a result of planned maintenance activities or unscheduled repairs.

ECUA crews have completed repairs in the area and flushed out the lines. Residents within the boil water notice area and nearby are advised that there is a possibility of discolored water as a result of the utility work, and to flush their home’s plumbing by running their taps for a few minutes.

Residents in the impacted areas are advised to boil water for one minute at a rolling boil or to use eight drops of regular unscented household bleach per gallon of water, for water to be used for drinking or cooking purposes.

The full list of impacted properties includes:

  • Chemstrand Road (Address Range: 8695-9131)

  • Topeka Road (Address Range: 207-295)

Two independent bacteriological samples have been initiated and the advisory will be lifted as soon as possible. This process routinely takes 48 hours and the notice will be rescinded at that time.

If problems persist, customers are asked to contact ECUA Customer Service at 850-476-0480 for assistance.

In a separate incident, a contractor working in the area of Gulfview Lane Monday was also responsible for damage to a 4-inch sewer force main that allowed an estimated 3,500 of sanitary sewer overflow. ECUA reported 2,500 gallons of the sewage were recovered for treatment and disposal and the overflow was contained on site so that no bacteriological sampling was required.
