Water company to begin $900,000 system upgrade in Amity Township

Apr. 7—Pennsylvania American Water company will soon begin construction on a $900,000 system upgrade in Amity Township that will improve water service for customers, the company announced Friday.

The company will replace one-third of a mile of water main to improve reliability, reduce service disruptions and increase water flows for firefighting, company officials said in a press release.

The project will start Monday, with crews replacing 1,900 feet of aging 6-inch cast iron pipe that was installed in the 1950s with new 8-inch ductile iron pipe and new copper service lines.

Crews will work weekdays between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., officials said.

Traffic restrictions will be in place during construction on Glenwood Drive between Magnolia Drive and Russell Avenue, and on Aspen Circle between Glenwood Drive and the cul-de-sac.

The company expects to complete the water main installation by the end of July, with final street restoration taking place in fall.

During construction, customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water and/or lower than normal water pressure, but crews will work as quickly as possible to shorten the length of these temporary inconveniences, officials said.

If lead service lines are discovered during the project, customers will be contacted directly to discuss remediation through the company's Lead Service Line Replacement Program, officials said.
