Labor Day weekend is usually our last hurrah of the summer, when we try to fit in as many barbecues, trips to the beach or lake, ice cream sundaes, and ice cold glasses of Rosé as possible. This year, it looks like there’s an even better way to make the last real weekend of summer more memorable — Boatsetter, which calls itself the Airbnb and Uber of boat rentals.

Owning a boat is a huge hassle. First, there’s the initial cost, then you need a way to get your boat in and out of the water, a place to store it in the water at a marina or on dry land at your house, and you have to count on having extra money for any necessary upgrades or repairs.

Boatsetter takes the hassle out of boating. Not only does Boatsetter make it easy to find a boat to rent for the day or weekend, but they’ll also actually provide a licensed captain if needed, so you don’t have to worry about getting lost at sea (your rental includes insurance and 24-hour on the water support, too).

To find a boat, you plug in your location (Boatsetter operates in 600 different places), the number of guests in your party, and the date of your rental. You can also specify whether or not you want a captain. Then, you’ll be able to look at a selection of different boats – at my location in Los Angeles options ranged from a 12-person 62′ Luxury Yacht at $2,800 for a half-day (captain included) to an 8-person, 18′ Duffy Boat for $175 per half-day for cruising around the marina, no captain needed.

Sure, owning a boat would be fun, but as a Millennial or Gen Z-er…what are the odds any of us are ever going to be able to afford something like that? Boatsetter makes it possible to live the luxe life, even if it is just for a few hours once a year.

Imagine moving your Labor Day celebration from your crowded apartment balcony to a graceful pontoon boat that will sail you and your friends around the harbor, the breeze in your hair and an ice-cold hard seltzer in your hand. Living the dream at a fraction of the cost never looked so good.
