EAST LANSING — Michigan State University officials say a water leak Wednesday night at Munn Ice Arena won't affect this weekend's hockey game with the University of Michigan.

"Early Wednesday evening, there was a malfunction of the fire suppression system in the hockey office at Munn Ice Arena," Associate Athletic Director Matt Larson said. "This resulted in water damage in some internal areas, primarily office space, practice shooting area and the team lounge."

The damage won't impact visitors to the arena, Larson added. He said no one was injured.

No cost estimate to repair the damage was available, Larson said.

Michigan State's men's hockey team is 15-4-3 heading into a home-and-home series with rival Michigan this week. The Wolverines are scheduled to visit Munn at 7 p.m. Friday where the Spartans are 9-0-1.

Munn Ice Arena, with a capacity of 6,114, is named in honor of late Spartan football coach and athletic director Biggie Munn. The arena underwent a $26.2 million expansion project that was completed in the fall of 2022.

With the renovations, Munn, which was dedicated Nov. 1, 1974, received a new team dressing room, a video theater, a state-of-the-art weight room, an athletic training room, a player lounge, and office space for the hockey staff. In addition, the facility added a main entrance with the Ron Mason Hall of Hockey. Mason coached MSU's hockey team for more than 20 years.
