Service restored after water main break closes part of road in Charlotte

Water service was restored early Wednesday after a water main break shut down a stretch of Beatties Ford Road in northwest Charlotte, officials said.

Crews are rebuilding the road with new soil and asphalt, Charlotte Water said on Twitter on Wednesday morning. Drivers will be detoured onto LaSalle Street to Statesville Avenue to Oaklawn Avenue through Wednesday morning.

Charlotte Water crews responded to the spill in the 1400 block of Beatties Ford Road, near Russell Avenue, the city utility said on Twitter just after 5 p.m. Tuesday.

About 50 customers were without water service in the immediate area of the break, Charlotte Water officials said. Water service was restored at 1:30 a.m.

In an update posted at 10 p.m. Tuesday, Charlotte Water said drivers should expect to follow a new detour onto LaSalle Street to Statesville Avenue to Oaklawn Avenue through Wednesday morning.

In an unrelated traffic alert, Charlotte Water on Monday said eastbound drivers on West Boulevard face daily detours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday, Sept. 30, for a new service installation.

Drivers are being detoured onto South Tryon Street to Remount Road.

Westbound drivers have one lane open.

This is a developing story.
