Water main break snarls traffic on Route 3 in East Rutherford

Traffic delays resulting from a water main break plagued Route 3 in East Rutherford on Wednesday morning.

Two lanes were shut down on the highway's eastbound side as drivers passed the scene, near the American Dream mall. Drivers were able to get to the New Jersey Turnpike but went through a service road to get there. According to 511 NJ's traffic map, the delays backed up to Lyndhurst.

Veolia Water first tweeted about the water main breaking shortly after 4 a.m. and some area residents were without water.

The company tweeted around 6:30 p.m. that "Repairs are complete on Rt 3 East @Rutherford and service has been restored. We thank you for your patience while we made these necessary repairs."
