3 juveniles rescued from Great Miami River in Dayton after struggling while swimming

UPDATE @ 12:40 p.m.:

Three juveniles have been rescued from the Great Miami River Friday afternoon.

Initial reports indicated that there were three juveniles in the river, unable to get back to shore just after noon.

Mike Rice, Deputy Chief of the Dayton Fire Department, said the juveniles had been swimming in the river when they began to struggle.

Upon arrival, crews found the juveniles clinging to the ladder of a feature in the river.

Rice said two rescue boats were dispatched to the scene. The first boat on scene was able to quickly get into the water and rescue the juveniles.

The three juveniles were uninjured. Rice said they did not have any kind of life jacket or floatation devices with them in the water.

Rice told News Center 7 that the area the juveniles were not one of the designated swimming area.

Rice warned residents of the dangers of swimming in the river, including the undercurrents.

Five Rivers MetroParks is investigating the incident, according to Rice.
