Water service restored after water main break in Collinsville but boil order continues

Collinsville officials announced Thursday morning that water service has been restored to residents after a significant water main break on Tuesday night reduced water pressure and volume across the city.

A boil order remains in effect until further notice.

The water main is on Collinsville Road near the city’s water plant. The city said in a statement the water main break happened at 10 p.m. Tuesday and repairs began within an hour.

Public Works Director Dennis Kress said in a video update Wednesday that crews had some difficulty with the repairs because the water main broke in a tight place that was surrounded by utility lines from Ameren and AT&T.

Homes as well as some schools and businesses were affected by the water main break. The city offered a supply of water bottles at the fire station Wednesday for anyone who needed them.

Under the boil order, Collinsville instructed residents to bring water they plan to use for drinking or cooking to a rolling boil for at least five minutes before use. It added that anyone with an ice maker should turn it off and discard the ice produced.
