Water valve burst causes minor flooding in Longmont Civic Center

Jan. 18—A frozen water valve burst on the east side of the Longmont Civic Center Tuesday, causing minor flooding inside of the building, according to a city spokesperson.

"In addition to flooding most of the south east area of the Civic Center, the water is dripping down the ceiling into the east side garage area," Rachel Moyer, citywide brand and digital communications specialist, said in an email Wednesday.

It isn't clear exactly what time the pipe burst. However, staff members were in the building at the time and helped get fans and heaters to the area quickly.

The city was already scheduled to have the damaged carpet replaced in two weeks.

"As for a true dollar estimate, we will not know for a few days but it will be mostly clean up with very little repair and replacement cost," Sandra Seader, assistant city manager said in an email.

Longmont and several other areas in the region endured frigid temperatures, well below zero degrees, earlier this week which may have led to the pipe burst.
