Water valve burst at Travis County civil court facility halts in-person proceedings

A water valve at the Travis County Civil and Family Courts Facility burst this week, halting all in-person proceedings for at least the remainder of this week as crews work to determine the extent of the damage and make repairs.

A news release sent Tuesday said remote proceedings will continue. Hector Nieto, a spokesperson for Travis County, said it's unclear at this time how long the in-person actions will be postponed and whether this week's arctic blast caused the water valve to burst.

It's also unclear how big of an impact the canceling of in-person proceedings will have on the court system. Nieto said it's not certain that in-person proceedings will continue next week, as it will depend on how badly the buildings are damaged.

"Crews are working around the clock," he said, adding that the county hopes to have more information about when in-person proceedings could continue in the next couple of days.

Nieto did not say which floors of the building were damaged, stating that he was only told there was water damage.

For the latest information, the county suggested visiting the civil court's website at traviscountytx.gov/courts/civil/tccfc.
