WATER WHIRL: BHS swimmers sparkle in season home finale
Bartlesville High School's swim teams made their final season home appearance a colorful clash of uniform colors, water slicing strokes and spraying water on Thursday.
Both the Bruins and Lady Bruins swept all their competition, which included Bixby, Owasso, Tulsa Edison and Wesleyan Christian.
Add in a handful of Homeschool water warriors and the town of Bartlesville put its ocean of talent on display.
Next up for Bartlesville - which is coached by Chad Englehart - and the other schools are the regionals, which also serve as the state meet qualifiers.
Thursday's thunderous competition served as a warm-up for the regionals.
In an interesting showdown in the girls 100 backstroke, younger sister Addison Howze - who attends HomeSchool - edged out her sister Emma Howze, who swims for Bartlesville High - by a little more than a second.
The 15-year-old Addison also surged to first in the girls 100 butterfly.
Other two-event individual champions included: Griffin Craig (Bartlesville boys, 50 freestyle, 500 freestyle); and Sam Conrad (WCS boys, 200 I.M., 100 breast); and Mylie Bradley (Edison girls, 200 I.M., 100 breast).
Bartlesville's Jarrett Moore enjoyed a shining moment. The only senior steamed to first place in the boys 100 butterfly in his final home meet for the high school. He barely edged teammate Cody Lay - by about a half-second - for first place.
But Lay also seized a title in the boys 100 backstroke.
Other Bartlesville High event champions included: Ashlynn Taylor (girls 200 freestyle), Emma Howze (girls 50 freestyle), Annabelle Droege (girls 500 freestyle), and Luke Olsen (boys 100 freestyle).
Bartlesville High also won every relay.
