Waterbury man arrested after police seize 1,200 bags of heroin, .44 Magnum and 5 other handguns during drug investigation

A Waterbury man was arrested Thursday after a search of his home uncovered more than 1,200 bags of heroin packaged for sale, crack cocaine and a half-dozen firearms, including a .44-caliber Magnum handgun.

Ryan Curry, 31, was charged with more than a dozen offenses, including operation of a drug factory and possession of a high-capacity magazine, police announced Friday morning. He also was charged with six counts of illegal sale of a firearm and theft of a firearm.

Members of the Waterbury Vice and Intelligence and Street Crimes divisions executed a search warrant at Curry’s North Walnut Street apartment on Thursday afternoon as part of an ongoing drug investigation, Sgt. Robert Davis said.

Inside they discovered 1,262 bags of heroin, 16.1 grams of crack cocaine, 3.9 grams of marijuana and $9,987 cash, Davis said.

They also seized six handguns, all loaded with ammunition, including the .44-caliber Desert Eagle and a .45-caliber Springfield Armory 1911, Davis said.

Curry remained in custody Friday in lieu of $1 million bond.
