Grieving Taunton dad's non-profit puts suicide prevention billboard on Route 24

An advertisement for the 988 Suicide Prevention Lifeline appeared recently on a billboard before the MA-106 exit, in West Bridgewater, on Route 24.

It says, “You Matter. Your Life Matters.”  and it will remain up through September, which is National Suicide Prevention Month.

The 988 billboard was paid for by The Kacie Project, which advocates for suicide prevention through awareness of existing programs and dedicated organizations.

Co-chair and Taunton resident Steve Palm said he was driving down Rt. 24 one day and noticed advertisements for non-profit agencies on several billboards, which is what initiated the idea to promote 988 this way.

“We do this because we don’t want other families to go through what we’ve gone through,” he said.

988 is free and available 24/7, 365 days a year through phone call, text or online chat through 988lifeline.org/chat.  It is also confidential, unless a person’s life is determined to be in immediate danger, in which case 911 emergency services are contacted.
