This waterfront Miami Beach resort is getting a glow up, including a new beach club

The next time you step into the Mondrian South Beach, you won’t recognize it.

That’s because the waterfront property, which opened on Biscayne Bay in 2008, is finishing up a $20 million property-wide renovation that includes a new indoor/outdoor restaurant and bar, new open-air common areas, luxury guest rooms, socially-distant meeting spaces, a renovated spa and wellness center, and a new beach club with an exclusive membership.

So yes. Sunset cocktails are still going to be a thing.

The renovation, designed by Miami-based designers Peter Oleck and Danny Cubes of OS Design Group, is meant to echo faraway, iconic spots like the Greek Islands, Tulum and the Amalfi Coast.

There’s a new look to the lobby space with marble patterned floors and coral columns. The lobby bar and lounge, which is sure to be awash in craft cocktails, features bayfront views. The 220 guest rooms feature natural woods, teak, bamboo and rattan, plus tropical and handmade macrame artwork.

Led by the boutique restaurant group LDV Hospitality, Baia Beach Club brings a Mediterranean vibe to an open-air space, with more macrame fixtures, Belgian linen and other bespoke touches. You’ll definitely get that Tulum feel. You don’t have to be a hotel guest to enjoy dining and entertainment options or the bayside cabanas and pavilions. There’s also direct marina access, plus a wellness and fitness center (the outdoor bar is also a wellness center of sorts, if you ask us).

“Since partnering with Russell Galbut, I knew this property deserved a complete makeover. As the audience of the hotel grows up, so should the property,” said Michael Liebowitz, co-owner of Mondrian South Beach, in a press release. “Mondrian has always been a go-to hotel for those looking for a welcoming, laid-back atmosphere, and we’re looking forward to bringing back that incredible energy.”

If you’re seeking more than that “laid-back atmosphere,” don’t worry. There will absolutely, positively be member-only luxury events at the beach club.

There are four other Mondrian locations in New York, Los Angeles, Doha and Seoul, with new hotels planned for Bordeaux and Cannes expected to open next year.

The Mondrian South Beach’s grand reopening is scheduled for Nov. 16. The hotel will start taking reservations Oct. 1.
