Waterloo Road actress Angela Griffin thought she'd won the lottery when her husband Jason Milligan was cast in the high-school soap.

Griffin stars as headteacher Kim Campbell, and was one of the only original cast members to return for this year's Waterloo Road revival. She stopped by The One Show yesterday (February 14) to reflect on her other half's guest appearance as Vinnie McCullen.

When asked by presenter Alex Scott how it was working with her husband, Griffin replied, "D'ya know what... I got about four minutes with him.

"He's an actor independently of me and then he got this job and I was like, 'Brilliant! We get to work with each other, we can go to Manchester together and have like a lovely time!' ... But he was never in on the same days as me.

"So I was always looking after the kids and he would be in Manchester having a great time," she added, before recalling how he would joke about taking over her position on the show.

"Then one day he came up and said that he was gonna become the headmaster, and told me everyone said they'd prefer him to be the headmaster. They don't. They don't. Kim's the best head."

Back in December, the former Coronation Street star teased how the new-look Waterloo Road differs from the old series.

"Now, the kids in school, the young people, are massively politicised, they've got so much to say, and they deserve to be heard and they feel like they deserve to be heard," she said.

"It's such a different landscape. Teaching has changed, schools have changed and nobody's doing it because of the wages, no one's doing it because of the respect or the thanks that they're getting. And it's just really interesting."

Waterloo Road is now available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
