Watertown and Aberdeen Central athletes combine to win 21 events at meets

SIOUX FALLS — Watertown's boys and girls combined to record 14 event victories on Tuesday in a high school track and field quadrangular at Howard Wood Field.

Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Jefferson also competed in the meet.

"This was only our second outdoor meet and it was probably the fifth or sixth for the Sioux Falls schools," said Watertown head coach Chad Rohde. "There a lot of good things that happened today with our kids. A lot of them improved their marks."

Jaxson Fiechtner and Boaz Raderschadt each won two events to lead the Arrow boys. Fiechtner won the 200-meter (24.18) and 400-meter (52.41) dashes and Raderschadt won the discus (137-5) and shot put (48-10). Owen Spartz (pole vault, 15-0) and Bayley Steiner (3,200 run, 11:18.64) also won individual events.

Watertown also won the 400 relay in 47.16 (Shey Coltrin, Cole Hansen, Tommy Foley and Jesse Werner) and the 800 relay in 1:38.41 (Jeremiah Schulte, Markus Pitkin, Alan Moen and Juven Hudson).

Girls division event winners for the Arrows included Anna Hirtz (100 dash, 13.99), Kate McElroy (1,600 run, 5:59.73), Eve Hauger (400 dash, 1:03.64), Victoria Smith (800 run, 2:40.68), Malia Kranz (shot put, 37-10) and Maddy Rohde (javelin, 117-6).

Rohde said the meet was supposed to be more of a junior varsity meet, but more varsity regulars competed for the Arrows since they aren't likely heading to the Pierre Legion Relays on Friday due to the weather forecast.

Watertown is scheduled to compete Tuesday in another meet at Howard Wood Field.

Brookings Meet

BROOKINGS — Aiden Heimann swept the boys' hurdle races to lead the performance of Aberdeen Central's track and field teams in a meet at Brookings on Tuesday,.

Harrisburg, Sioux Falls Lincoln, Madison and Brookings also competed.

Heimann won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.37 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 41.75 for Aberdeen Central's boys, who also got wins from Carter Dingman (200 dash, 24.07) and David VanVeen (1,600 run, 4:48.36).

Regan Lust (high jump, 5-2), Ciara Frank (long jump, 18-2) and Grace Kuch (javelin, 97-6.5) each won events for the Golden Eagles in the girls division.

Big Dakota Conference

STEPHAN — Ryli Thompson and Simon Fried each earned four first-place finishes to lead a strong performance by Mobridge-Pollock's teams in the Big Dakota Conference track and field meet on Tuesday.

Mobridge-Pollock won the seven-team girls division with 209 points. Miller edged Mobridge-Pollock 164-162 to win the nine-team boys division.

Thompson led MP's girls, by winning the 100 (12.8), 200 (28.0) and 400 (1:05.2) dashes and anchoring the winning 1,600 relay (4:27.9) that included Faith Heil, Jacy Netterville and Jayda Thomson.

Heidi Olson won the 1,600 (5:05.8) and 3,200 (12:58.4) runs, Netterville the 300 hurdles (52.8) and Emily Hatzenbuhler the shot put (32-3) and discus (108-1) for Mobridge-Pollock's girls.

Fried led MP's boys, winning the 800 run (2:11.9), 300 hurdles (43.2) and long jump (18-11.5) and anchoring the winning 1,600 relay (3:46.3) that included Turner Pfitzer, Logan Vetch and Shane Henderson.

Carter Hinsz won the shot put (46-3) and MP also won the 3,200 (10:50.2) and medley (4:21.4) relays. Rafe Jewett, Ashton Waliser, Kale Knudson and Vetch ran in the 3,200 and Greg Kessler, Pftizer, Isiah Waldner and Waliser in the medley.

Renzo Bullhead of McLaughlin won the 200 dash (24.8).

Gayville-Volin Tri-State Invite

GAYVILLE — Deuel runners Jaycee Hourigan and Ricky Berndt swept the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs on Tuesday in the Gayville-Volin Tri-State Invite track and field meet.

Twelve boys and 11 girls teams competed with Centerville winning the girls division and Elkton-Lake Benton the boys division. Area teams Deuel, Estelline-Hendricks and Dakota Hills competed.

Hourigan won the girls' 1,600 (5:47.74) and 3,200 (12:47.7) and Berndt the boys 1,600 (4:42.75) and 3,200 (10:23.87).

Other area event winners include Sadie Johnson of Estelline-Hendricks (girls' pole vault, 9-0); Jon Nefzger of Estelline-Hendricks (boys' discus, 129-8) and Gabe Sather of Deuel (boys' 110 hurdles, 16.28).

Bon Homme Invite

TYNDALL — Marley Guthmiller of Ipswich won three individual events to lead Ipswich to the girls division title Tuesday in the Bon Homme Invitational track and field meet.

Nine schools competed. Ipswich won the girls division with 108 points and finished second in the boys division with a 103.

Guthmiller won the girls' 100 hurdles (time not available), 300 hurdles (52.96) and pole vault (8-0). Teammate Madisyn Gellhaus took the 3,200 run (13:02.37).

Carter Geditz (110 hurdles, 15.57) and Trevor Heinz (long jump, 22-1) each won events for Ipswich in the boys division.

Howard Tiger Relays

Athletes from De Smet and Iroquois-Lake Preston were scheduled to compete Tuesday in the Howard Tiger Relays track and field meet.
