Aberdeen Central boys settle score with Watertown and other weekend hoops

Aberdeen Central used Spencer Barr's 27 points and three steals to avenge an earlier-season loss to Watertown in high school boys basketball on Saturday.

The Arrows beat Aberdeen Central 48-30 at Watertown in January.

Jett Carlson added seven points for the Golden Eagles (6-11), who visit Sioux Falls Roosevelt in their regular-season finale on Monday.

The Arrows concluded their regular season with a 7-13 record will await on word on where'll they head for a SoDak 16 state-qualifying game on Saturday. Dylon Rawdon notched 14 points and three steals and Jake Olson 11 points and six rebounds for Watertown. Kohen Kranz contributed seven points and Will Engstrom six. Caden Beauchamp snared six rebounds and Rabine five.

On Friday, Watertown and Aberdeen Central's girls and boys teams each suffered losses to Harrisburg and Sioux Falls Jefferson, respectively.

Harrisburg's girls prevailed over Watertown 47-45 on Sadie Mehrman's field goal with 1.8 seconds left in the Civic Arena. At Harrisburg, the host Tigers downed Watertown 66-42.

Aberdeen Central's girls battled No. 2 Jefferson to the wire before falling 55-52 on the road. At Aberdeen, No. 1 Jefferson's boys rolled to an 86-47 win.

Abigail Flanagan tallied 15 points and 10 rebounds and Kayleigh Hybertson and Jaylee Hofer each scored nine points for Harrisburg's girls (15-5).

Jaida Young tied the game with two free throws with 14.7 seconds left. Mehrman then went coast-to-coast and converted a layup for the win. Young finished with 15 points and seven rebounds for Watertown (11-9), which also got 12 points from Emery Thury, seven points each from Miranda Falconer and Maddy Rohde and seven rebounds from Kendall Paulson.

The Arrows will play in a SoDak 16 game on Friday. Pairings have not been finalized.

Ethan Determan recorded 23 points and four assists, Jacoby Mehrman 12 points, Braeden VanBockern 11 points and four assists and Camden Phipps eight points for Harrisburg's boys (13-7).

Watertown (7-12) was led by Jake Olson's 12 points. Kohen Kranz added seven, Caden Beauchamp six and Dalton Baumberger and Jack Heesch each five.

Jefferson's girls 16-3 used a 3-pointer and a free throw in the final 13.5 seconds to escape against the Golden Eagles. Aliyah McGovern-Harrington finished with 16 points and Cierra Watkins 15 for the Cavaliers. Taryn Hermansen had 10 points, Madison Miller eight and Grace Kuch and Anna Malchow seven each for Aberdeen Central (7-10), which hosts Sioux Falls Roosevelt on Monday.

Jefferson's boys improved to 18-1 with 24 points and seven rebounds from Kaden Year, 23 points from Taylen Ashley and 13 points from Griffin Wilde. Spencer Barr scored 18 for Aberdeen Central (5-11), which also got nine points from Grant Fritz and six rebounds from Parker Lemer.

Region 1A Quarterfinals: No. 1 Sisseton (18-2) 83, No. 8 Tiospa Zina (5-14) 46; No. 2 Milbank (13-7) 55, No. 7 Webster Area (7-13) 37; No. 3 Groton Area (13-8) 55, No. 6 Waubay-Summit (9-11) 27; and No. 4 Aberdeen Roncalli (11-9) 45, No. 5 Redfield (10-11) 32.

Roncalli visits Sisseton and Groton Area heads to Milbank for semifinal games at 6 p.m. Winners advance to SoDak 16 state-qualifying games on Thursday.

Maurina Street produced 18 points and nine rebounds, Tyra Berry 17 points, Isabella Anderson 13 points and six rebounds and Sierra Wenzl six points for Milbank. Erin Case finished with 10 points, Harley Johnson nine and Erin Sannes eight for Webster Area.

Ava Hanson poured in 20 points and Claire Crawford added eight for Roncalli. Ellie Evans and Gracie Fast each scored eight points and Katie Rozell seven for Redfield.

Groton Area used 23 points from Sydney Liecht and 11 points and nine rebounds from Jaedyn Penning to advance. Eva Benike tallied 13 points and Faith Larson nine for Waubay-Summit.

Krista Langager's 31 points and 11 rebounds paced Sisseton. Chloe Langager contributed 15 points and five rebounds, Tara Nelson 12 points, Emmalee Nielsen six points and four assists and Hannah Leverson six points, six rebounds and seven assists. Kennadee Bissonette collected 26 points and seven rebounds and Alexia Quinn 12 points, 12 rebounds and four assists for Tiospa Zina.

Region 2A Quarterfinals: No. 1 Hamlin (20-0) 74, No. 8 Estelline-Hendricks (9-12), 26; No. 2 Florence-Henry (17-2) 54, No. 7 Clark-Willow Lake (7-13) 23; No. 3 Flandreau (17-4) 51, No. 6 Great Plains Lutheran (10-11) 17; and No. 4 Sioux Valley (14-7) 57, No. 5 Elkton-Lake Benton (12-9) 23.

In semifinal games on Monday, Hamlin hosts Sioux Valley and Florence-Henry takes on Flandreau at Henry. Both games are set for 7 p.m.

No. 1 Class A Hamlin rolled with 20 points from Kami Wadsworth, 15 from Addie Neuendorf, 13 from Ally Abraham, 11 from Brooklyn Brandriet and eight from Marissa Bawdon. Sadie Johnson paced Estelline-Hendricks with 13 points.

Key contributors for Florence-Henry included Taylor Watson, 11 points; Caylin Kelly 10 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and four assists; Trinity Watson and Reese Schmidt each nine points; and Haley Hlavacek eight points and six rebounds. Alicia Vig scored seven points for Clark-Willow Lake.

Lizzlie Pavlis garnered 19 points; Claire Sheppard 13 points, six rebounds and four steals; and Lily Klein 11 points and 10 rebounds to lead Flandreau. GPL got six points from Olivia Holmen.

No details were reported from the Sioux Valley-ELB game.

Region 6A Semifinals: Top-seeded Miller (18-4) downed No. 4 Crow Creek (11-11) 64-35 and No. 2 Dupree (17-5) beat No. 2 Mobridge-Pollock (15-7) in semifinal games to earn berths in Thursday's SoDak 16 state-qualifying games. No other details were reported.

Region 1B Quarterfinals: No. 1 Warner (15-6) beat No. 8 Langford Area (4-17) 52-23; No. 2 Leola-Frederick Area (15-6) handled No. 7 Aberdeen Christian (2-19) 50-13; No. 3 Northwestern (13-7) turned back No. 6 Wilmot (5-15) 67-47 and No. 4 Hitchcock-Tulare (8-13) slipped past No. 5 Britton-Hecla (5-15) 41-40.

Semifinal games are Monday in the Webster Armory: Warner vs. Hitchcock-Tulare at 6 p.m., followed by Leola-Frederick Area vs. Northwestern at 7:30 p.m.

Warner won with 14 points from Ava Nilsson, nine from Kyleigh Schopp, seven from Kamryn Anderson and six each from Kiah Koch and Stacia Carda. Megan Guthmiller scored eight for Langford Area.

Ariana Ratigan collected 22 points and nine rebounds, Ashley Haven 12 and 13, Ella Haven nine and eight and Ella Boekelheide eight and eight for Northwestern. The Havens each also dished out six assists. Addison Heinje recorded 28 points, six rebounds and four steals for Wilmot, which also got 10 points from Ashlyn Ebben.

Sofia Losure tallied 19 points, Laura Sumption 13 and Chloe Arneson nine for LFA. Sophia Eichler had six for Aberdeen Christian.

Cambree Hoekman's 21 points powered Hitchcock-Tulare. Sterling Brassfield collected 12 points and Tiyanna Schott 11 points and 10 rebounds for Britton-Hecla.

Region 2B Semifinals: In the Huron Arena, top-seeded and second-rated Wolsey-Wessington (20-2) and third-seeded Castlewood (16-7) each advanced to SoDak 16 state-qualifying games on Thursday with wins.

Wolsey-Wessington topped No. 5 James Valley Christian (15-7) behind 17 points, five rebounds and five steals from Leah Williams; 17 points, six rebounds and four assists from Mallory Miller; 13 points and four steals from Mya Boomsma and nine points and four steals from Taylor Horn. Kaylie Robinson had 11 points and eight rebounds and Alexa Goertz eight and nine for JVC. Lily Hofer pitched in with nine points.

Castlewood avenged a 22-point regular-season loss to Arlington with a 52-48 win. The Warriors received 12 points, 11 rebounds and four steals from Mackenzie Everson, 15 points and five rebounds from Maddie Horn, 10 points and seven rebounds from Presley Knecht and nine points from Kailyn Larson. Arlington (17-5) was led by Addalyn Steffensen's 17 points and eight rebounds, Jaelyn Huntimer's 12 points and Harley Johnson's eight points and seven rebounds.

Region 6B Semifinal: No. 1 seed and third-rated Sully Buttes (19-3) qualified for Thursday's SoDak 16 games with a 49-31 win over No. 4 Herreid-Selby Area (11-11). No. 3 Lyman won the other semifinal on Friday.

Minnesota Section 3A North: In Section 3A North quarterfinal games, No. 1 Lac qui Parle Valley downed No. 8 Dawson-Boyd 54-20 and No. 2 Minneota stopped No. 7 Canby 49-38.

Kortney Leppke tallied 11 points, Brynn Kockelman 10 and Ashlee AnnFrazeur eight each for Canby.

Rylee Lund tallied 16 points and six rebounds; Camryn Lee 10 points and 11 rebounds; Taylor Shelstad 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals; Isabel Gerdes six rebounds and six assists; Ayanna Gipson five steals and Jayln Lee seven points for LqPV (24-3). Kate Dahl paced Dawson-Boyd with eight points.

Region 1B: Eighth-seeded Langford Area (4-16) downed ninth-seeded Waverly-South Shore (0-21) 50-21 in a play-in game on Friday. No other details were reported.

Region 6B: Third-seeded Lyman defeated No. 2 Potter County (14-8) in a semifinal game on Friday and No. 1 Sully Buttes (18-3) handled No. 8 Ipswich (6-16) 54-36 and No. 4 Herreid-Selby Area (11-10) slipped past No. 5 Lower Brule (10-10) in quarterfinal games. No other details were reported.

Aberdeen Christian 64, Groton Area 60, OT: The top-rated Class B Knights (18-2) prevailed with the overtime win over the Class A Tigers (14-5). Malek Wieker scored 12 of his game-high 27 points in overtime and Ethan Russell added 17 points and 13 rebounds, including the game-tying 3-pointer late in regulation, to lead AC. Jackson Isakson pitched in with 16 points. Jacob Zak had 19 points, Tate Larson 14 and Ryder Johnson 10 for Groton Area. Larson also hauled in 10 rebounds.

Florence-Henry 65, Webster Area 44: Carson Vavruska produced 13 points and Peyton Roe and Mehki Keller 11 each for the Falcons (10-10). Adam Moe grabbed six rebounds. Webster Area (4-15) received nine points and five rebounds from Jaiden McCreary, nine points from Carson Mount and eight points from Ian Lesnar.

Clark-Willow Lake 84, Arlington 29: The Cyclones (14-5) won by getting 20 points and four steals from Tyson Huber and 18 points from Trey Huber. Cole Brenden and Kaplan Felberg each contributed nine points and Brady Jordan six assists. Blake Madsen and Riley Miller each scored six points for Arlington (2-18).

Milbank 60, Tiospa Zina 52: The Bulldogs closed out a 13-7 regular season with 19 points from Jaxson Wildung, 13 points from Garrett Mertens and 12 points and seven rebounds from Joe Schulte. Tate Never Misses A Shot led Tiospa Zina (10-9) with 20 points. Reondre Greeley, Nate Thompson and Ashen Sierra each had eight points and Storm Sierra eight rebounds.

Waubay-Summit 61, Deuel 56: Damon Opdahl's 18 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and four steals led Waubay-Summit (17-3). Jonathan Johnston added 17 points, Jackson Wohlleber 11 points and five assists and Jared Purdy 10 points. Braydon Simon's 25-point, seven-rebound performance paced Deuel (12-8), which also got 11 points and six rebounds from Gavin Benck, 10 points from Trey Maaland and seven rebounds from Ronnie Begalka.

Great Plains Lutheran 56, Wilmot 20: The Panthers (9-11) won with 15 points from Myles York; 12 points, five rebounds and five assists from Alex Heil; 11 points and 10 rebounds from Austin Rubendall; and eight points and six steals from Micah Holien. Wilmot closed the regular season with a 1-18 record.

Ipswich 60, Leola-Frederick Area 37: Trevor Heinz scored 20 points, Ian Beyers 15 and Tyler Hettich eight for Ipswich (13-6). Noah Kippley finished with 11 points and Ethan Petrich, Connor Spitzer and Brayden Sumption six each for LFA (11-9).

Iroquois-Lake Preston 74, Sunshine Bible Academy 46: The Sharks (9-11) used 25 points, five assists and five steals from Logan Peskey and 10 points, six rebounds and four assists from Riley Casper to get the win. Josh McMasters added 13 points and Tobias Arbeiter nine points and six rebounds. Nolan Triebwasser collected 25 points and seven rebounds and Daniel Gerbracht 11 and six for SBA (2-15).

Waverly-South Shore 71, Langford Area 46: Landon Maag tallied 20 points, Grant Holman 12, Owen Gilmour 10 each, Dan Dalton eight, Troy Kneeland seven and Evan Comes six for WSS (10-10). Kassen Keough notched 18 points and Jesse Keough 15 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and four steals for Langford Area (4-16). Kalen Godel chipped in eight points and Jackson Bahr six.

Hanson 61, Elkton-Lake Benton 43: Ethan Cheeseman recorded his 1,000th career points while tallying 21 points, nine rebounds and five assists for Hanson (13-7). Jayce Slaba added 12 points and Sutton DeWald 10. Carson Griffith's 10 points and Ryan Krog's nine paced the Elks (6-14).

Northwestern 79, Hitchcock-Tulare 63: Nathan Melius produced 20 points, Lincoln Woodring 15, Chase Neiber 14 and Reilly Schmitt nine for Northwestern (13-5). Carter Binger tallied 18 points, Erik Salmen 14, Jackson Maynard 11 and TJ Salmen 10 for Hitchcock-Tulare (10-10).
