Watertown Area Swim Club takes second in state long course meet

SIOUX FALLS — The Watertown Area Swim Club recorded another fine performance in the 2022 South Dakota State Long Course Championships over the weekend at the Midco Aquatic Center.

The Dolphins finished second behind the Sioux Falls Swim Team for the fourth-consecutive state meet. No state meet was held in the summer of 2020.

Sioux Falls topped an 18-team field with 7,613 points, followed by WASC at 4,659.50.

WASC swimmers won 29 events in the meet, included four relays by the quartet of Parker Hoftiezer, Owen Muller, Kooper Heiser and Jason Kasparek in the 13-14 boys division (400-meter medley, 400 freestyle, 200 medley and 200 freestyle).

Zoey Peterson, TyLynn Wellnitz, Madison Haslem and Khloe Campbell won the 9-10 girls 200 freestyle.

Jazmyn Lunn won seven individual events in the 15-16 girls division and Elsie Boettcher five in the 13-14 girls division to lead the Dolphins. Lunn and Boettcher each were the top high-point earners in their respective age divisions.

Other WASC individual-event winners were Justine Kranz, three in 11-12 girls; Hoftiezer, two in 13-14 boys; O. Muller, two in 13-14 boys; Clayton Muller, two in 9-10 boys; Kaden Zink, two in 17-19 boys; and Josephine Waite, one in 11-12 girls.

11-12 Girls — 2. Justine Kranz; 5. Josephine Waite. Emari Kaufman of the Webster Swim Team was 10th.
