Watertown grapplers edge Aberdeen Central for title in Lee Wolf Invite

ABERDEEN — Watertown edged Aberdeen Central 230.5-229 for the team championship in the 16-team Lee Wolf Invitational wrestling tournament on Saturday.

The Arrows had 12 place winners, including 120-pound champion Sloan Johannsen. Johannsen went 4-0 and upped his season record to 33-0.

Gage Lohr (106, 29-3), Weston Everson (126, 29-5), Jax Kettwig (170, 19-13) and Brock Eitreim (195, 23-6) each placed second for Watertown. Ian Johnson (152) and Micah Hach (285) each took third; Braden Le (132), Jackson Maag (182) and Matthew Peters (220) each fourth; Derek Hanson (138) fifth and Leo Stoup (113) seventh.

Hayden Zens went 4-0 and won the 126-pound title for Aberdeen Central, which had 19 wrestlers place. Zens improved to 33-2 by avenging a loss to Watertown's Everson on Thursday in Watertown. Mason Schrempp (145, 24-4), Elias Biegler (152, 21-14) and Bryce Beitelspacher (220, 22-10) each placed second.

Porter Lozenski (113), Brody Aesoph (138) and Samson Flakus (195) each were third; Ridley Waldo (120) fourth; Will Allen (106), Tate Huff (132), Lopan Opitz (160), Ryker Meister (182) and Jacob Krenz (285) each fifth; Ayden Gisi (170) and Felipe Gonzalez (285) sixth; and Jacob Bellefeuille (138), Noah Kramer (145), Cordell Rychlik (152) and Cayden Shatto (170) each seventh for Aberdeen Central.

Redfield, which took sixth with 96.5 points, got individual titles from Brady Risetter at 106 pounds and Grady Fey at 285. Risetter went 3-0 and upped his season record to 19-0. Fey, who went 4-0, is now 24-1.

Sisseton had six placers, Clark-Willow Lake and Mobridge-Pollock each four and Webster Area one. Ian Metz (120) of Sisseton and Haeden Jorgenson (132) of Webster Area each finished second.

Lee Wolf Invite Girls

ABERDEEN — Aberdeen Central finished second and Watertown fifth in the girls division of the Lee Wolf Invitational on Saturday.

Pierre won with 224.5 points, followed by Aberdeen Central at 122. Watertown had 92. Aberdeen Central had seven placers, Watertown fifth, Sioux Valley and Webster Area two each and Clark-Willow Lake, Doland and Mobridge-Pollock each one.

Dani Batchelor of Clark-Willow Lake went 3-0 to win the 113-pound championship. She improved to 18-3 on the season.

Aberdeen Central place winners included runner-ups Madyson Gillen (113), Ula Martin (126) and Katrina Gibson (152). Avery Bendewald finished third at 106 and Jasmine Maas (132) Lin Paw Jone (142) and Autumn Gauer (285) each took fourth.

Olivia Anderson (106), Allison Konrad (190) and Hope Orr (285) each took second for Watertown. April Peterson finished third at 154, Katelyn Yexley sixth at 132 and Jeryn Fieber eight at 126.

Sioux Valley's Summer Guthmiller finished second at 142 to lead other area place winners.

Groton Area Invitational

GROTON — Thirteen area wrestlers won individual titles Saturday in the Groton Area Invitational.

Faulkton Area won the 16-team tourney with 161 points, followed by Warner-Northwestern at 117, Ipswich-Leola at 114 and Watertown's junior varsity 106.5.

Faulkton Area had 11 place winners including champions Cody Edgar (13-2 at 90-98), Sean Roseland (26-12 at 106), Garrett Cramer (26-4 at 145) and Lincoln Dikoff (25-6) at 195. Edgar went 4-0 with four pins, Roseland and Cramer each 4-0 and Dikoff 2-0.

Warner-Northwestern had two champions and seven placers. Alex Pudwill (24-10 at 170) and Preston Cavalier (23-5 at 220) each went 3-0 and won titles.

Other area champions included Korbin Kuecker of Groton Area (2-0 at 152), Brady Unser of Ipswich-Bowdle (12-6 at 120), Lucas Rowland of Ipswich-Bowdle (19-2 at 285), Nicholas Schlachter of Potter County (22-7 at 113), Tanner Frickson of Potter County (22-9 at 138), Carter Luikens of Potter County (3-0 at 160) and Sam Anderson of the Watertown jv (132).

Unser and Frickson each were 4-0; Rowland, Schlachter, Luikens and Anderson each 3-0 and Kuecker 2-0. Unser recorded four falls and Rowland and Luikens three apiece.

Watertown's jv had eight placers, Ipswich-Bowdle six, Potter County and Groton Area four each, Webster Area three and Clark-Willow Lake, Britton-Hecla and the Milbank jv two apiece.

Groton Area Invite Girls

GROTON — Juliana Weaver of Ortonville (Minn.) won the 106-pound division and Jaycie Leir of Groton Area the 142-pound title in the girls portion of the Groton Area Invite.

Weaver went 2-0 and Leir 3-0 with three falls.

Groton Area had three place winners, Ortonville two and Britton-Hecla one.

Les Tlustos Invitational

BROOKINGS — Eli Greenman and Lane Fink of Canby (Minn.) each captured individual titles Saturday in the Les Tlustos Invitational at Brookings.

Pierre took the 15-team tourney with 287.5 points. Canby took third at 169 with 11 place winners. Milbank had six place winners and took 11th with 73.

Greenman (31-6) went 3-0 and won the 113-pound division. Fink (31-8) went 4-0 and won at 145.

Owen Fischer (20-7) took third at 106 to lead the Milbank place winners.

Tourneys Cancelled

The Wagner and Parker Invitationals were each cancelled on Saturday because of the weather.
