Watertown humbles Mitchell girls tennis at home

Sep. 21—MITCHELL — Mitchell's girls tennis regular-season dual tennis schedule ended with a thud on Tuesday at Hitchcock Park, with Watertown taking down the Kernels, 8-1.

It was the most lopsided loss for the Kernels (14-6) in a dual this season and Mitchell had few answers for the Arrows, who improved to 14-3 on the season with the dual win.

Mitchell's lone win on the day came from No. 3 singles standout Carsyn Weich, who took down Leyla Meester in a 6-3, 6-1 match. Delaney Degen was defeated at No. 2 singles by Watertown's Ellie Zink in 7-6 (7-5) and 6-1. Josie Heyn topped Mitchell's Elly Clement at No. 4 singles match by a 6-2, 7-5 score.

In the No. 1 doubles match, Watertown's Ellie Zink and Josie Heyn rallied past Amber Moller and Delaney Degen in a 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 10-3 match. Jaida Young and Leyla Meester won the No. 2 doubles match by a 7-5, 6-1 score over Carsyn Weich and Megan Mastel.

Mitchell will host the Eastern South Dakota Conference meet on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at Hitchcock Park.
