Watertown Laker boys close regular season with two home losses

The Watertown Lakers' varsity boys hockey team wrapped up regular season play with South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association losses to Sioux Falls Flyers I 5-0 on Friday and the Oahe Capitals 4-3 on Saturday in the Maas Ice Arena.

The Lakers (7-18 overall and 7-15 in the SDAHA) led 2-0 on Saturday before Oahe rallied with two goals in each of the final two periods. Barrett Schweitzer and Devin Dodson each tallied two goals and Ashton Griese two assists for the Capitals (17-3-1).

Tommy Foley scored two goals and Wyatt Knopf one for the Lakers. Mylan Evans, Jake Bramer and Austin McBride each were credited with assists.

Oahe outshot Watertown 35-19. Caleb Schmaltz made 31 saves for Watertown and Colin Lee 16 for Oahe.

The league-leading Sioux Falls Flyers I (19-0-2 in the SDAHA) won Friday night by getting two goals from Maxwell Mohr and two assists from Coryu Perdaems. Goalie Cole Langston made 17 saves.

Schmaltz recorded 23 saves for Watertown.

Watertown is the No. 8 seed for the state tournament March 11-13 at Sioux Falls.
