Watertown Lakers beat Aberdeen, fall to Brookings in SDAHA boys hockey

The Watertown Lakers' varsity boys hockey team recorded a split of weekend South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association road games at Aberdeen and Brookings.

On Friday, the Lakers (7-15 overall and 7-12 in the SDAHA) held on for a 4-3 win over the Aberdeen Cougars. On Saturday, the host Brookings Rangers topped the Lakers 7-0.

Tommy Foley scored two goals and Ryan Roby and Hudson Hendricks each one for Watertown in Friday's win. Mylan Evans contributed two assists and Jake Bramer one.

Austin Dabney, Aiden Posthumus and Drake Witte each scored for Aberdeen (8-10-1). Ethan Fergel, Seth Malsom and Posthumus each tallied assists.

Watertown outshot Aberdeen 27-24. Caleb Schmaltz stopped 21 shots for the Lakers and Sam Casper 23 for the Cougars.

Owen Schneider's hat trick sparked Brookings (17-2-1) to its win over Watertown. Jay Harris, Zach Struck, Trenton Pederson and Riley Linstad also found the net for the Rangers. Luke Honkomp recorded six assists, Breck Hirrschoff two and Jack Merritt and Schneider one apiece.

Brookings outshot Watertown 46-12. Kade Brecher pitched the shutout in net for the Rangers. Schmaltz notched 39 saves for the Lakers.

Watertown closes out its regular season by hosting Sioux Falls I at 8 p.m. on Friday and Oahe at 6 p.m. on Saturday in the Maas Ice Arena.
