Watertown mayoral, council candidates to discuss issues during forums

Oct. 15—WATERTOWN — The two mayoral and four City Council candidates will meet this week in separate candidate forums.

City councilwomen Lisa A. Ruggiero and Sarah V. Compo Pierce will square off during a mayoral debate at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The four council candidates will meet to talk about the issues at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The four council candidates are former Councilman Leonard G. Spaziani, former council candidates Timothy J. Babcock and Benjamin P. Shoen, and Dr. Robert O. Kimball, who finished first in the June primary.

The two candidates with the most votes will be elected to four-year terms.

Both candidate forums will be held at the Italian-American Civic Association at 192 Bellew Ave. They also will air live on WATN 1240 AM radio.

Former Mayor Jeffrey A. Graham, who hosts a hotline news talk radio program on the station, will be the moderator for both forums.

People attending the forums will be able to ask questions of the candidates.

WWNY-TV, Channel 7, also plans to host a forum for the mayoral candidates, but details are still being worked out.
