Watertown, Milbank track athletes win nine events at Mitchell, Vermillion

MITCHELL — Watertown High School's track and field athletes recorded eight event wins and a school record on Thursday during the Mitchell Indoor Invitational at the Corrigan Fieldhouse.

The meet also included Class AA schools Huron and Mitchell as well as Class A schools Mount Vernon-Plankinton and Ethan-Parkston.

"It was just nice to be able to get out and compete," said Watertown head coach Chad Rohde. "Big thanks to Mitchell for putting this on and allowing our kids to participate. Our kids did some great things today (season and personal bests) and had a lot of smiles on their faces."

Owen Spartz won the boys' pole vault by clearing 15 feet, 6 inches to break his previous school record by an inch. Juven Hudson won the 60- (7.16 seconds) and 200-meter (24.39) dashes, took second in the long jump (21-9) and also anchored the second-place 800 relay that also included Shey Coltrin, Alan Moen and Jesse Werner.

Jaxson Fiechtner (800 run, 2:04.94) and Boaz Raderschadt (shot put, 52-2) also won events for the Arrow boys. Fiechtner also anchored the second-place 1,600 relay team that included Markus Pitkin, Jerome Zebroski and Jeremiah Schulte.

The Arrow girls got event wins from Elizabeth Lake (pole vault, 9-6), Makenna Blank (long jump, 16-6) and the 3,200 relay team (10:37.14) of Emma List, Kate McElroy, Andi Olson and Victoria Smith.

Boys Division: Coltrin, seventh in 60 dash and eighth in triple jump),; Cole Hansen, fifth in 200 dash; Moen, eighth in 200 dash; Jeremiah Schulte, fourth in 400 dash; Bayley Steiner, sixth in 800 run; Cody Rohrbach, seventh in 60 hurdles; Tommy Foley, third in pole vault; Jacob Holgate, fourth in pole vault; Asher Young, seventh in pole vault; Werner, seventh in long jump; Jonas Geier, fifth in triple jump; Brayden Ross, seventh in triple jump; Chase Crocker, third in shot put and Landon Peery, eighth in shot put.

Other Watertown relay teams took second in the 3,200 (Briley Martin, Isaiah Norton, Ayden Steiner and B. Steiner) and third in the medley (Pitkin, Moen, Austin Redfield and A. Steiner).

Girls Division: Anna Hirtz, third in 200 and fourth in 60 dash; Blank, fifth in 200; Eve Hauger, second in 400 dash; Emery Thury, fifth in 400 dash; Emma Hendricks, seventh in 400 dash; Smith, second in 800 run; Olson, third in 800 run; List, fourth in 800 run; Hayden Thomas, second in triple jump and fourth in long jump; Paige McAreavey, third in shot put; Grace Corey, tied for eighth in shot put; Briella Van Dusseldorp, tied for second in high jump and seventh in 60 hurdles; Reese Munger, second in high jump; Bri Johnson, tied for seventh in high jump; Abby Beynon and Ericka Woolley, tied for second in pole vault; and Marli Wadsworth, sixth in pole vault.

Other Watertown relay teams placed second (Blank, Thury, Hirtz and Hauger) and fifth in the 800 (Dana Greenman, Madisyn Grimsrud, Emma Reihe and Thomas); third in the 1,600 (Olson, Smith, Thury and Hauger); and fourth in the medley (E. Hendricks, Molly Hendricks, Olivia Whiting and Elizabeth Rieffenberger).

The Arrow teams are scheduled to compete in the Titan Invite on Tuesday at Tea. Many of the meet's field events will be held in Vermillion.

"It is going to be nice to get outside for a chance at qualifying for state," said Rohde.

Vermillion Booster Club Invite

VERMILLION — Seventh-grader Bianca Berry won the girls' 3,200-meter to lead the performance of Milbank High School's boys and girls track teams in the Vermillion Booster Club Invite on Thursday.

Berry won the race in 12 minutes and 16.41 seconds.

Jacy Dexter (girls' pole vault, 9-6) and Jayden Johnson (boys' pole vault, 13-0) added second-place finishes for Milbank, which scored 39 points to finish eighth out of 12 teams in the girls division and 26 points to take 10th out of 12 teams in the boys division.

Other top-8 finishers for the Bulldogs included:

Girls Division: Ellie Neugebauer, eighth in triple jump; Averie Engebretson, eighth in discus; Katie Kruger (third), Maggie Kruger (sixth) and Rylee Scoular (seventh) in pole vault; Nadia Thue, sixth in 300 hurdles and eighth in 100 hurdles.

Milbank relay teams placed third in the 1,600 (Maurina Street, Isabella Anderson, Neugebauer and Sierra Wenzl); fourth in the 800 relay (Laney Forrette, Street, Anderson and Wenzl); fifth in the 3,200 (Street, Berry, Zayda Townsend and Neugebauer) and sixth in the 400 (Forrette, Anderson, Ella Sandvig and Wenzl).

Boys Division: Yohana Ajwanga, eighth in triple jump; Sam Rice, third in triple jump and fourth in pole vault; Layten Osowski, fourth in triple jump; Emmett Hanson, eighth in 110 hurdles; and James Batchelor, fifth in 1,600 run.

Milbank placed fifth in the 3,200 (Batchelor, Beckham Berry, Joe French and Liam Heller) and eighth in the 400 (Aidan Foell, Rick, Bray Bowsher and Dylan Bohn).
