Watertown teams split, Hamlin squads beat No. 1 teams in weekend hoops

Watertown High School's girls and boys basketball teams split non-conference games against Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Huron slipped past Aberdeen Central's boys in an Eastern South Dakota Conference game on Friday.

Watertown's girls improved to 9-8 with a 67-50 win at Sioux Falls Roosevelt (0-16). In the Watertown Civic Arena, Roosevelt's boys (10-6) notched a 48-35 victory over Watertown (6-10).

Host Huron upped its record to 7-10 with the ESD win over Aberdeen Central's boys (3-10).

The Arrow girls overcame a slow start, erasing a 15-14 first-quarter deficit with a 17-5 surge in the second quarter. Jade Lund poured in a career-high 23 points, Jaida Young 15 and Maddy Rohde 14 for Watertown. Kendall Paulson contributed seven rebounds and Young six assists.

Katie Spicer finished with 18 points and Morgan Johnson 10 for Roosevelt.

At Watertown, Roosevelt's boys survived a second-half rally by the Arrows by getting 12 points from Jack Radel, 10 from Jackson Brouwer and nine from Naser Ismail. The Riders led 24-21 at halftime and increased its lead to 11points in the third quarter. Watertown cut the deficit to two on two occasions before Roosevelt pulled back ahead.

Dylon Rawdon scored 12 points and Caden Beauchamp and Kohen Kranz six each for the Arrows. Beauchamp also hauled in seven rebounds.

Huron's boys pulled out a close with 25 points and eight rebounds from Reilyn Zavesky , 15 points from Dylan Lichty, eight points from CJ Gainey and six rebounds from Mason Davis.

The Golden Eagles received 17 points each from Carter Dingman and Spencer Barr, 11 from Parker Lemer and 10 from Jett Carlson. Barr and Grant Fritz each collected five rebounds. Barr also made five steals.

Watertown and Aberdeen Central meet on Tuesday, the girls at Watertown and the boys in Aberdeen. Both games are set for 7 p.m.

DWU Culver's Classic: Class A Hamlin (14-3) knocked off No. 1 Class B Aberdeen Christian 48-43 behind Easton Neuendorf's 18 points and seven rebounds. Tyson Stevenson contributed 12 points and Brennan Keszler seven points and seven rebounds. The Knights received 13 points from Malek Wieker, eight points and nine rebounds from Ethan Russell and eight points and six rebounds from Jackson Isakson.

Waubay-Summit slipped to 14-3 with a 67-52 loss to Howard (12-3). Luke Koepsell had 19 points and 12 reboujnds, Ryder Erickson 13 points and Kolt Koepsell 11 points for Howard. Damon Opdahl led the Mustangs with 21 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Jonathan Johnston added 14 points and eight rebounds, Jared Purdy eight points and Jackson Wohlleber nine points, eight assists and five rebounds.

Clark-Willow Lake 40, Flandreau 29: Kaplan Felberg's 15 points led the Cyclones (13-4) to the Lake Central Conference win. Paul Parsley had 10 points for Flandreau.

De Smet 69, Deuel 53: Damon Wilkinson collected 25 points and 10 rebounds, George Jensen 13 points and five assists and Kadyn Fast 12 points, six assists and four steals for Class B No. 3 De Smet (16-3) in the Lake Central Conference win. Trey Maaland led Deuel with 19 points. Gavin Benck, Ricky Berndt and Carter Leddy each added nine points. Benck also collected seven rebounds.

Sioux Valley 82, Parker 34: Patrick Carey garnered 22 points, Alec Squires 18. Oliver Vincent 14, Maxwell Engebretson 11 and Hudsyn Ruesink eight for the second-rated Class A Cossacks (16-1). Vincent also had 11 assists and Nelson six. Ruesink and Squires each collected six rebounds. Ray Travnicek led Parker with 11 points.

Elkton-Lake Benton 61, Garretson 48: Carson Griffith notched 23 points, Ryan Krog 12 and Tanner Drietz eight for ELB. Brecken Weier scored 13 and Ian Boettner nine for Baltic.

Sunshine Bible Academy 54, Sioux Falls Lutheran 52: SBA recorded its first varsity win in three years by getting 23 points and nine rebounds from Daniel Gerbracht, nine points from Owan Watson and eight points each from Parker and River Jones. Ethan Olson had 19 points, Grant Prouty 18 points and Muoch Jud 10 points and 14 rebounds for SFL.

Groton Area 58, Mobridge-Pollock 41: Lane Tietz recorded 17 points, Jacob Zak 13, Tate Larson 10 and Cole Simon eight for Groton Area. Shane Henderson (11 points, seven rebounds) and Michael Wald (10 points) paced Mobridge-Pollock.

Leola-Frederick Area 64, Webster Area 43: Noah Kippley tallied 14 points, Brayden Sumption 13, Hans Lapka 12 and Winston Clark 11 for LFA. Webster Area was led by Matthew Mount and Ian Lesnar with 10 and eight, respectively.

Ipswich 62, Langford Area 34: Trevor Heinz scored 20 points and Tyler Hettich and Carter Geditz eight each for Ipswich. Jesse Keough notched 12 points and eight rebounds, Rennan Bruns 12 points and Kassen Keough 10 points for Langford Area.

Milbank 67, Tri-Valley 44: Milbank used 25 points from Garrett Mertens, 17 points from Joe Schulte and 10 points and nine rebounds from Jaxson Wildung to earn the non-conference win. Justus Osborn made five assists. Noah Haynes' 15 points topped Tri-Valley.

Scores: Wessington Springs 58, Hitchcock-Tulare 39; Maple River 55, Oakes 48 (N.D.); and Central Cass 69, Ellendale 32 (N.D.). No other details were reported.

Florence-Henry 47, Warner 41: The Falcons evened their record at 8-8 with 18 points from Mehki Keller, 12 points from Peyton Roe and nine points and eight rebounds from Ty Bergh. Warner (11-7) was led by Hunter Cramer's 15 points, Levi Scepaniak's 13 points and Brodey Sauerwein's six rebounds.

Herreid-Selby Area 51, Mobridge-Pollock 47: Tray Hettick's 24 points, seven rebounds and four steals led the way for HSA (11-7), which also got six rebounds each from Trevor Gill and Hunter Friend. Michael Wald had 14 points, Jackson Eisemann 12 and Shane Henderson eight for Mobridge-Pollock. Henderson and Kobe Goodshield each snared six rebounds.

Faulkton Area 67, Langford Area 45: Layne Cotton's 37-point outburst led Faulkton Area (6-10). He made 15 field goals, including a trio of 3-pointers, and went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Charlie Dieter added 11 points. Jackson Bahr tallied 21 points, Kassen Keough eight points and Jesse Keough 10 points, 10 rebounds and five steals for Langford Area (4-12).

Northwestern 66, North Central 30: Quintin Fischbach produced 17 points, Nathan Melius 15 and Chase Neiber 10 for Northwestern. Cooper Oxner led North Central with nine.

Scores: Tiospa Zina 70, Sisseton 28; Wilmot 72, Sioux Falls Lutheran 55; Winner 52, McLaughlin 32; Deubrook Area 70, Colman-Egan 60; Tri-State 61, Britton-Hecla 51; and Montevideo 46, Lac qui Parle Valley 45 (Minn.). No other details were reported.

Florence-Henry 51, Belle Fourche 47: Caylin Kelly produced 14 points, six rebounds, six steals and five assists to help the Falcons improve to 15-1. Trinity Watson added 11 points; Haley Hlavacek 10 points, four steals and four assists; Taylor Watson eight points; and Reese Schmidt seven points. Mataya Ward tallied 14 points, Chloe Crago 11 and Grace Clooten 10 for the Broncs.

Deubrook Area 77, Oldham-Ramona-Rutland 38: The Dolphins rolled to the Dakota Valley Conference win with 21 points from Ellie Koenig, 14 from Skyla Petersen and 13 from Brooke Koppatschek. Julia Trygstad's 13 points paced ORR.

Tri-Valley 60, Milbank 57, OT: Tri-Valley prevailed with 16 points from Madelyn Wenzel, 14 from Lauren Grinde and 10 from Stephanie Buchmann. Maurina Street's 31 points, five rebounds and five steals set the pace for Milbank (11-7), which also got 11 points from Tyra Berry.

Flandreau 59, Clark-Willow Lake 34: Flandreau won the Lake Central Conference game with the help of Claire Sheppard's 22 points. Lizzie Pavlis chipped in with 14 points, 12 rebounds, four steals and four assists and Lily Klein 11 points and four points. Musonda Kabwe's 15 points and Teyha Vig's led Clark-Willow Lake.

Warner Classic: Scores include Warner 58 (Ava Nilsson 14 points, Lauren Marcuson nine and Kyra Marcuson 8), Aberdeen Roncalli 39 (Claire Crawford 11 points, Ava Hanson nine and Camryn Bain eight); Lower Brule 66 (Courtney Traversie 16 points, Kaitlyn Thompson 15, Lael Middletent 13 and Alyssia Fire Cloud 10), Tiospa Zina 54 (Alexia Quinn 21 points and Kennadee Bissonette 15); Herreid-Selby Area 60 (Jordyn Rossow 18 points, Jada Rossow 12, Katie Albee 10 and Stephanie Allbee nine), Wilmot 29 (Addison Heinje 18 points); and Langford Area 29 (Kylie Schock eight points, Megan Gusfason seven), Flandreau Indian School 24 (Niyah Sierra 13 points).

Webster Area 59, Leola-Frederick-Area 48: Harley Johnson's 14 points, Katie Braun's 13, Erin Case's 12 and Carrington Hanson's nine paced Webster Area. Laura Sumption scored 23 points and Chloe Arneson nine for LFA, which also got 10 rebounds from Sofia Losure.

Hamlin 63, Viborg-Hurley 46: Class A Hamlin (18-0) won the battle of No. 1-rated teams in the DWU Culver's Classic by getting 25 points from Kami Wadsworth; 10 points each from Ally Abraham, Addie Neuendorf and Marissa Bawdon and eight from Brooklyn Brandriet. Abraham also pulled down 10 rebounds. Class B Viborg-Hurley (15-3) received 18 points from Denae Mach and eight points, 10 rebounds and four assists from Coral Mason.

Castlewood 55, Elkton-Lake Benton 40: Presley Knecht scored 15 points, Maddie Horn 12, Mackenzie Everson and Gracie Haug eight each and Lyndsey Archer and Kailyn Larson six apiece for Castlewood (12-6) in the Dakota Valley Conference game. Tevan Erickson and Rachel Krog each had 12 points for Elkton-Lake Benton (11-6).

Redfield 43, Groton Area 34: The Pheasants (8-10) won the Northeast Conference game with 18 points from Camryn Rohlfs, 11 points and seven rebounds from Gracie Fast and eight rebounds from Ellie Evans. Brooke Gengerke and Jerica Locke each scored six points and Jaedyn Penning grabbed seven rebounds for Groton Area (11-7).

Waubay-Summit 67, Waverly-South Shore 27: Eva Benke tallied 21 points, Aubrey Strang and Brianna Lindholm 11 each, Faith Larson nine and Ava Breske seven for the Mustangs (9-9). The Coyotes, who fell to 0-17, were led by Carlee Mushitz with 12 points and Jolene Krantz with eight.

Ipswich 44, Sunshine Bible Academy 32: Gabby Wald's 18 points and four steals paced Ipswich (4-13). Kaitlyn Bierman added nine points and seven rebounds. Annaliese VanZee had 15 points and Sadie Konechne 11 rebounds for SBA (1-15).

Deubrook Area 39, Colman-Egan 34: Ellie Koenig and Skyla Petersen led the Dolphins (12-4) with 14 and 10 points, respectively. Brynlee Landis scored 11 points and Lanie Mousel seven for Colman-Egan (10-9).

Faulkton Area 42, Langford Area 26: Paislee Martinmaas erupted for 22 points and seven rebounds to spark Faulkton Area. Carley Cotton contributed nine points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Megan Gustafson recorded 12 points, 11 rebounds and four steals for Langford Area (2-14).

Luverne 58, Canby 30 (Minn.): Kortney Leppke's 13 points and six rebounds and Brynn Kockelman's 11 points paced Canby in the loss.

Wolsey-Wessington 71, Iroquois-Lake Preston 40: Mya Boomsma recorded her 1,000th career points and finished with 18 points for the second-rated Class B Warbirds (15-2). Mallory Miller produced 18 points, eight rebounds and five blocked shots; Leah Williams 16 points and eight assists; and Lainey Uttecht seven points and four steals. Adison Moore scored nine points and Ava Malone and Hadlee Holt seven each for ILP (6-12).

Tri-State 57, Britton-Hecla 31: Shali Laurence notched 17 points, Iceli Rabbithead 10 and Kallie Grefsrud nine for Tri-State (8-9). Britton-Hecla (4-14) received nine points from Sterling Brassfield and eight from Alyssa James.

Lac qui Parle Valley 64, Ortonville 23 (Minn.): Camryn Lee's 22 points and 16 rebounds helped LqPV improve to 21-3. Rylee Lund added 14 points; Taylor Shelstad seven points, nine rebounds, seven assists and four steals; and Ayanna Gipson six points and four steals. Kadyn Gronholz scored 10 points for Ortonville.

Northwestern 63, North Central 45: The Wildcats used 18 points and 15 rebounds from Ashley Haven, 17 and six from Tara Blachford and 13 and 12 from Adriana Ratigan to get the win. Blachford also had seven assists. Brittney Frickson scored 13 points and Amree Vander Vorst 10 for North Central.

Scores: Winner 62, McLaughlin 38; De Smet 55, Oldham-Ramona-Rutland 50; Oakes 56, Barnes County North 10 (N.D.); and Lakeview 67, Dawson-Boyd 61 (Minn.). No other details were reported.
