Sixteen area wrestlers capture individual titles in weekend tourneys

Micah Hach of Watertown was one of 16 area high school wrestlers to win tournament titles on Saturday.

Hach (24-2) went 4-0 to win the 285-pound division Saturday in the Sioux City (Iowa) Bishop Heelan Invitational. Norfolk (Neb.) won the tourney with 207 points. Watertown, which had Hach and a group of junior varsity wrestlers, finished seventh at 109.5.

Blake Wientjes placed fifth (220); Keslar Swenson (120) and Cooper Kettwig (126) each six; Kutler Swenson (113), RJ Nichols (132), Cade Kuemper (145), Andrew Stricker (182) and Ethan Wientjes (220) each seventh; and Chase Matthews (106) eighth for the Arrows.

Watertown hosts Aberdeen Central and Harrisburg in a triangular starting at 5 p.m. Thursday in the Civic Arena. The Arrows are tentatively scheduled to open with Aberdeen Central at 5 p.m.

East-West Duals

PIERRE — Aberdeen Central split four duals on Saturday in the East-West Duals.

The Golden Eagles (12-6 in duals) handled Rapid City Central 69-6 and Spearfish 70-3 and lost to Sturgis 42-16 and Rapid City Stevens 41-25.

Rayden Zens (126 pounds), Logan Opitz (160-170) and Jacob Krenz (285) each went 4-0 on the day for Aberdeen Central, which competes Thursday in a triangular at Watertown.

River City Rumble

CHAMBERLAIN — Milbank had eight place winners and won the 12-team River City Rumble on Saturday with 151 points.

Sisseton took seventh 108.5.

Owen Fischer went 4-0 and won the 106-pound championship to lead Milbank. Holden Hawkins (4-0 with four pins at 126) and Ian Metz (3-0 at 120) each won titles for Sisseton, which had five place winners.

Kingsbury County Invite

ARLINGTON — Eleven area wrestlers captured individual titles in the Kingsbury County Invite on Saturday.

Brookings won the 15-tourney with 235.5 points, followed by Canby (Minn.) at 222. Kingsbury County was third (164.5) and Redfield fourth (138).

Canby's 12 place winners included champions Eli Greenman at 113, Issac Guzman at 120, Sam Drietz at 132, Lane Fink at 138 and Lincoln Fink at 145. All five went 3-0 in the tourney.

Brody Risetter (3-0 at 106) and Grady Fey (3-0 at 285) each won titles for Redfield Area. Collin Beaner of Britton-Hecla (3-0), 145) and Lincoln Dikoff of Faulkton Area (195, 3-0) also won.

Kingsbury County had 13 place winners, Redfield seven, Hamlin-Castlewood five, Sioux Valley seven, Faulkton Area four, Ipswich-Bowdle four, Warner-Northwestern four, Britton_Hecla three and Groton Area three.

Sioux Valley's Skylar Virchow (2-1 at 113-120) and Summer Guthmiller (3-0 at 142) each place first in the girls division. Sioux Valley had six place winners, Groton Area two and Britton-Hecla and Doland each one.

Little B

PARKSTON — Cooper Pommer of Clark-Willow Lake won the 106-pound division in the Little B Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.

McCook Central-Montrose won the 15-team tourney with 226 points. Clark-Willow Lake took eight with 87 and Webster Area 10th with 30. CWL had seven place winners and Webster Area four.

Pommer went 4-0 at 106 and improved to 19-1 on the season.

Winner Invite

WINNER — Parker won the 13-team Winner Invitational on Saturday with 202 points.

Area teams included Mobridge-Pollock (9th, 82), Potter County (11th, 38) and Sunshine Bible Academy (13th, 7). Mobridge-Pollock had seven place winners, Potter County three and Sunshine Bible one.

Friday

Watertown 42, Brookings 21

BROOKINGS — Watertown High School's wrestling team used a strong flourish at the end to record a 41-21 Eastern South Dakota Conference dual win over Brookings on Friday.

The Bobcats (3-3 overall and 2-2 in the ESD) pulled within 25-21 after the 182-pound match before the Arrows (7-2 2-1 closed out the win with a fall from Brock Eitreim at 195 pounds, a major decision from Matthew Peters at 220 and another fall from Micah Hach at 285.

Sloan Johannsen and Ian Johnson also recorded falls for the Arrows. Gage Lohr won with a major decision and Leo Stroup, Braden Le and Derek Hanson each added decisions. Hanson won the ultimate tiebreaker.

Watertown competes in the Sioux City (Iowa) Bishop Heelan Tournament on Saturday.

VOLGA — Kingsbury County went 3-0, Lyman 2-1, Sioux Valley 1-2 and Warner-Northwestern 0-3 in a quadrangular on Friday.

Scores included Kingsbury County over Sioux Valley 65-12, Lyman 52-27 and Warner-Northwestern 54-27. Lyman topped Sioux Valley 45-30 and Warner-Northwestern 43-24 and Sioux Valley beat Warner-Northwestern 42-30.

Rogen Albrecht (106), Cody Zell (113), Gannon Gilligan (126), Kaleb Johnson (132), Sheldon Balderston (145-152), Dylan Zell (145-152) and Connor Johnson (195) each went 3-0 for Kingsbury County. Clayton Dulaney (138), Dustin Dirksen (170-182) and Preston Cavalier (220) each won three matches for WNW and Tate Steffensen had three wins for Sioux Valley.

Pierre Girls Invite

PIERRE — Aberdeen Central placed three wrestlers and placed fifth in the Pierre Girls Invite on Friday with 76 points.

Katrina Gibson went 3-0 to win at 154 pounds. Madyson Gillen (113) and Autumn Gauer (285) each went 2-1 and placed second for the Golden Eagles.

Brooke Grajczyk of Webster Area went 3-2 and placed fourth at 132.
