Watertown's Dakota Sioux Casino is the latest in South Dakota to offer sports betting

Dakota Sioux Casino & Hotel in Watertown is the latest South Dakota establishment to add sports betting to its offerings.

The new Dakota Nation Sports Book opened April 27 and follows multiple sports betting openings in Deadwood -- at Cadillac Jack's Gaming Resort, Tin Lizzie Gaming Resort, Dale's Sportsbook, Gold Dust Casino, BetKota and Mustang Sally's -- and in Sisseton at Dakota Connection Casino.

Dakota Sioux offers straight bets, parlays and round robins, sportsbook manager Robert Fairweather said.

A round robin sports bet is a series of smaller parlays created from a larger set of bets.

Betters can wager on money lines -- a team just to win the game -- the spread, over/unders and prop bets, Fairweather said.

A prop bet is a wager that isn't directly tied to the outcome of a game. For example, somebody could bet on what player will score the first touchdown in a football game.

Dakota Sioux also offers teasers for basketball and football games, Fairweather said. For basketball, there are 5, 5.5 and 6-point teasers. For football, there are 6, 6.5 and 7-point teasers. Simply put, people who bet on multiple games can get better odds with a teaser. The tradeoff is a lower payout

Sports included in the new betting offerings include all major sports, including the NFL, the NBA, MLB, the NHL, NCAA football, NCAA men's basketball, golf, NASCAR, the WNBA and Formula 1 racing.

As of now, the cage handles any payouts for winning tickets, but the sports betting kiosks are available 24/7, Fairweather said.

"Once we open the counter, I will have writers/tellers that you will be able place bets with and redeem winning tickets (with), but that won’t be available 24/7," he said. "If the sportsbook is closed, the cage is still able to handle payouts."
