Watertown's Johannsen, 10 other area wrestlers capture tourney titles

Junior Sloan Johannsen captured the 120-pound championship to lead Watertown High School's wrestling team to a third-place finish out of 44 teams Friday and Saturday in the Rapid City Invitational.

Pierre won the tourney withy 196 points, followed by Sturgis at 178.5 and Watertown 160.5. Aberdeen Central finished 11th with 100.5.

Watertown had five place winners and Aberdeen Central three.

Johannsen edged Winner's Maxton Brozik 4-3 in the the finals to cap a 5-0 weekend and up his record to 11-0 on the season. Gage Lohr went 4-1 and finished second at 106 pounds and Micah Hach also was 4-1 and took third at 285. Weston Everson took fourth at 126, going 5-2, and Brock Eitreim third at 195, going 3-3.

Other Arrows and their tourney records included Leo Stroup (3-2, 113), RJ Nichols (0-2, 126), Braden Le (2-2, 132), Landen Lewis (1-2, 138), Derek Hanson (3-2, 145), Markus Pitkin (0-2, 152), Ian Johnson (2-2, 160), Jax Kettwig (2-2, 170), Jackson Maag (3-2, 182) and Matthew Peters (2-2, 220). Lohr and Hach are each 10-1.

Mason Schrempp went 4-1 and finished second at 145 pounds to lead Aberdeen Central. Rayden Zens also went 4-1 and finished third at 126. Tate Huff took fourth at 132 with a 4-2 mark.

Other Golden Eagles and their tourney records included Esten Foss (0-2, 106), Porter Lozenski (0-2, 113), Will Allen (2-2, 113), Riley Waldo (3-2, 120), Brody Aesoph (2-2, 138), Noah Kramer (1-2, 145), Jacob Bellefueille (0-2, 152), Elisa Biegler (1-2, 152), Cordell Rychlik (1-2, 160), Logan Opitz (2-2, 170), Ayden Gisi (0-2, 182), Ryker Meister (1-2, 182), Samson Flakus (2-2, 195), Bryce Beitelspacher (2-2, 195) and Jacob Krenz (2-2, 285).

Watertown had three place winners and Aberdeen Central two in the girls division.

Hope Orr went 3-1 and finished second at 285 for the Arrows. Olivia Anderson went 3-1 and took third at 100 and Allison Konrad was 2-2 and took fifth at 190.

Other Arrows included Jeryn Fieber (2-2, 120), Hayden Thomas (2-2, 120), Kaitlynn Payne (2-2, 120), Katelyn Yexley (2-2, 142), April Peterson (2-2, 154) and Emma Wientjes (0-2, 154).

Madyson Gillen went 3-2 and took fourth at 113 for Aberdeen Central. Katrina Gibson went 3-2 and placed seventh at 154. Other Golden Eagles included Eva Hinkle (1-2, 106), Avery Bendewald (0-2, 106), Kalyn Rohrbach (1-2, 113), Ula Martin (1-2, 126), Allison Neitzel (1-2, 126) and Jaci Cox (0-2, 154).

Aberdeen Central is set to visit Pierre on Tuesday for an Eastern South Dakota Conference dual at 7 p.m. Watertown travels to Brookings for an ESD dual on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Faulkton Invite

FAULKTON — Eight area wrestlers won individual championships Saturday in the Faulkton Invite.

Cash Edgar (98 pounds) and Parker Bode (285) of Faulkton Area, Cooper Pommer (106) and Chase Chambers (160) of Clark-Willow Lake, Nicholas Schlachter of Potter County (113), Blake Steiner of Sisseton (120), Clayton Dulany of Warner-Northwestern (145) and Cole Dunlavy of the Aberdeen Central junior varsity (195). All went 3-0 except Steiner, who was 2-0. Edgar and Chambers each recorded three falls.

Elk Point-Jefferson won the 14-team meet with 162 points. Area teams in 3-14 included Oakes (N.D.) 145, Faulkton Area 131, Aberdeen Central jv 121, Sisseton 104, Warner-Northwestern 95, Potter County 91, Clark-Willow Lake 90, Mobridge-Pollock 81, Britton-Hecla 63.5, Ipswich-Leola 27.5, McLaughlin 14 and Sunshine Bible Academy 12.5.

Ken Ruml Invite

HOWARD — Gannon Gilligan of Kingsbury County and Noah Smith of Hamlin-Castlewood each won individual titles Saturday in the Ken Ruml Invite.

McCook Central-Montrose edged Parker 129.5-124.5 for the team title in the 16-team meet. Kingsbury County was third at 113.5, Deuel 10th at 54, Hamlin-Castlewood 11th at 53 and Webster Area 12th at 32.

Gilligan (7-0) won three matches to take the 132-pound title, topping Gavin Kloos of Deuel 8-2 in the championship. Smith went 2-0 and pinned Tayt Gran of Madison in 3:00 to win at 285. Smith is now 5-0 on the season.

Tacey Miller of Webster Area (113) and Dylan Zell of Kingsbury County (145) each added runner-up finishes.
