Watertown's Rawdon hits game-winning bank shot, leads top performers

It was a big shot for Dylon Rawdon and a big shot for the Watertown High School boys basketball team.

After Sioux Falls Washington scored on an in-bounds play to even the score in the closing seconds of last week's high school boys basketball game in the Watertown Civic Arena, Rawdon (a 6-foot junior guard) came down the court and banked home a 3-pointer with just under three seconds remaining that lifted the Arrows to a 57-54 win.

The game-winning 3-pointer also put the finishes touches on a 23-point night for Rawdon that has him leading the list of top area high school performers for Jan. 30-Feb. 5.

Boys Basketball

Caden Beauchamp, Watertown: Beauchamp had his own big game for the Arrow boys last week, scoring 25 points in a loss to second-rated Sioux Falls Lincoln.

Damon Wilkinson, De Smet: It was another ho-hum week for the big guy, who had 25 points and nine rebounds in a loss to Tea Area and 37 and 17 in a win over Elkton-Lake Benton. He also surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his career.

Carter Dingman, Aberdeen Central: Dingman scored 17 points in a loss to Yankton.

Hunter Cramer, Warner: Cramer had 51 points in two wins last week, including 31 in an overtime victory over Langford Area.

Owen Gilmour and Landon Maag, Waverly-South Shore: Gilmour had games of 28, 21 and 18 points in three games last week. Maag scored 23 in a loss to Warner.

Myles York and Austin Rubendall, Great Plains Lutheran: York produced 19 points and eight rebounds in a win over Arlington and Rubendall 20 and 12 in a win over Wilmot.

Jacob Zak, Groton Area: Zak tallied 24 points in a loss to Elk Point-Jefferson.

Jesse Keough, Langford Area: Keough's double-double (22 points, 12 rebounds) carried the Lions past Wilmot.

Keitrick Genia and Dennis Creadon, Wilmot: Genia notched 24 points in a loss to Langford Area and Creadon 20 in a loss to Great Plains Lutheran.

Garrett Mertens, Milbank Area: The Bulldogs won a Northeast Conference game against Aberdeen Roncalli with the help of Mertens' 20 points.

Kaplan Felberg and Trey Huber, Clark-Willow Lake: The Cyclones handled Sisseton with 28 points from Felberg and 21 from Huber.

Jonathan Johnston and Damon Opdahl, Waubay-Summit: Johnston canned eight 3-points as part of 30-point effort in a win over Northwestern. Opdahl added 25 points, nine assists, eight rebounds and six steals in the same game and 25 points, seven rebounds and four steals in another win over Florence-Henry.

Ryder Falkenhagen, Potter County: Falkenhagen went for 24 points in a loss to Sully Buttes.

Jerron Haider and Mitchell Mack, Redfield: Haider scored 23 points and Mack 21 in a win over Webster Area.

Ethan Russell and Jackson Isakson, Aberdeen Christian: Russell and Isakson each scored 19 points in a win over Northwestern. Russell added 18 more in a win over North Central.

Ryan Krog, Elkton-Lake Benton: Krog scored 26 points in a loss to De Smet.

Noah Kippley, Leola-Frederick Area: Kippley tallied 22 points in the overtime loss to Warner.

Layne Cotton, Faulkton Area: This kid's a baller. He collected 26 points, 11 rebounds, eight steals and five assists in a win over Sunshine Bible Academy.

Oliver Vincent and Alec Squires, Sioux Valley: The Cossacks handled Flandreau with 27 points, eight rebounds and five steals from Vincent and 19 points and nine rebounds from Squires.

Trevor Heinz, Ipswich: Heinz produced 22 points and seven steals in a win over Miller.

Logan Peskey, Iroquois-Lake Preston: Peskey notched games of 29 and 19 points last week.

Joe McAninch, Estelline-Hendricks: McAninch had 22 points in a win over Waverly-South Shore.

Girls Basketball

Jada Burke and Hazel Luethmers, De Smet: Burke had 26 points and six rebounds in a loss to Elkton-Lake Benton, reaching the 1,000-point mark for her career. Luethmers contributed 19 points in a loss to Wolsey-Wessington.

Addison Heinje, Wilmot: Heinje poured in 35 points, going 10-for-16 from the free-throw line and also added 10 steals and six rebounds in a loss to Great Plains Lutheran.

Kami Wadsworth and Marissa Bawdon, Hamlin: The top-rated Class A Chargers stayed unbeaten with 25 points from Wadsworth in a win over No. 2 Vermillion, 26 in another win over Milbank and 18 in a victory over Castlewood. Bawdon scored 17 points against Milbank.

Kayla Jordan, Clark-Willow Lake: Jordan scored 17 points in a loss to West Central in the Dak XII-NEC Clash.

Krista Langager, Sisseton: The Redmen fell to Sioux Falls Christian in the Dak XII-NEC Clash, despite getting 21 points from Langager.

Katie Rozell, Redfield: Rozell notched 19 points against Tri-Valley in the Dak XII-NEC Clash.

Sydney Leicht, Groton Area: Leicht recorded games of 23 and 20 points in two games last week.

Stacia Carda and Ava Nilsson, Warner: Carda had 19 points against Waverly-South Shore and Nilsson 14 points and 14 rebounds against Faulkton Area.

Addison Melius, Faulkton Area: Against Warner, it wasn't the 11 points but the 19 rebounds that has Melius on this list.

Tevan Erickson and Kylie Ramlo, Elkton-Lake Benton: The Elks topped Iroquois-Lake Preston with 22 points from Erickson and 19 from Ramlo.

Adison Moore, Iroquois-Lake Preston: This girl can score, producing 23, 24 and 25 points in three games last week.

Taryn Hermansen, Aberdeen Central: The Golden Eagles suffered a tough loss to Harrisburg. Hermansen kept them close with 18 points and six rebounds.

Adriana Ratigan, Northwestern: Against Waubay-Summit, she notched 18 points and 20 rebounds.

Brittney Frickson, North Central: Frickson's 24 points led North Central past Ipswich.

Isabella Anderson and Maurina Street, Milbank: Anderson tallied 18 points and seven rebounds in a win over Aberdeen Roncalli. Street had two double-doubles (13 points and 10 rebounds in one game and 14 and 12 in the other).

Mariah Goehring, Mobridge-Pollock: Goehring finished with 21 points in a win over Aberdeen Roncalli.

Olivia Holmen, Great Plains Lutheran: The Panthers beat Wilmot with Holmen's 15 points, six rebounds, four blocked shots, four assists and three steals.

Maddie Horn and Mackenzie Everson, Castlewood: Horn scored 23 and 23 points in wins over De Smet and Waubay-Summit. Everson added 19 and 21.

Megan Gustafson, Langford Area: Gustafson scored 21 points in a loss to Waubay-Summit.

Camryn Lee, Lac qui Parle Valley (Minn.): A 26-point, 10-rebound performance by Lee led the Eagles past Dawson-Boyd last week.

Wrestling

Gage Lohr, Sloan Johannsen, Braden Le, Brock Eitreim and Micah Hach, Watertown: All five wrestlers notched wins in a home dual victory over Huron and then went 4-0 to win individual titles in the Yankton Invitational. Lohr won at 106, Johannsen 120, Le 132, Eitreim 195 and Hach 285 to spark the Arrows to a second-place finish.

Hope Orr, Watertown: Orr went 2-0 and won the girls' 285-pound title in the Yankton Invitational.

Brady Risetter, Mason Whitley, Seth Siebrecht and Grady Fey, Redfield: Risetter (106) went 4-0 and Whitley (152), Siebrecht (182) and Fey (285) each 3-0 on the way to winning individual titles in the Redfield Invitational. Risetter and Fey also went 2-0 in a triangular and 3-0 in the Miller/Highmore-Harrold Duals. Whitley also was 3-0 in the duals and Siebrecht 2-0 in the triangular.

Christian Ehresmann, Groton Area: Ehresmann went 3-0 in a quadrangular and 4-0 on the way to winning the 138-pound division in the Big Dakota Conference tournament.

Jesse Bears Heart, Mobridge-Pollock: Bears Heart also went 4-0 and took the 170-pound championship in the Bib Dakota Conference tournament.

Gannon Gilligan, Kingsbury County: Gilligan won three matches to take the 126-pound division in the Big East-Lake Central Conference tournament.

Dominic Constant, Deuel: Constant also went 3-0 and took the 182-pound championship in the Big East-Lake Central Conference tournament.

Dani Batchelor, Clark-Willow Lake: Batchelor won two matches and took the 106-pound girls division in the Big East-Lake Central Conference tournament.

Cooper Pommer, Clark-Willow Lake: Pommer not only went 3-0 in a quadrangular last week, but also added three wins on the way to winning the 106-pound title in the Big East-Lake Central Conference tournament.

Hockey

Alyssa Roehrich, Aiden Raap, Kailyn Poppen, Morgan Jones and Ema Rehder, Aberdeen Cougars (girls): The Cougars went 3-1 and finished second in the Dakota Premier Classic tournament at Brookings. Roehrich tallied four goals and one assist, Raap 3-1, Poppen 1-5, Jones 2-2 and Rehder 1-3 to go with 15 saves in one game in the net.

Devon Fischbach, Quincy Madsen, Lance Siefken and Micah Kranzler, Aberdeen Cougars (boys): The Cougars swept Brandon Valley in SDAHA games, getting four goals and two assists from Fischbach, 3-3 from Madsen, 3-2 from Siefken and 1-3 from Kranzler.

Caleb Schmaltz, Watertown Lakers (boys): In two SDAHA losses over the weekend, Schmaltz recorded 53 saves for Watertown.

Gymnastics

Makia Moe, Deuel: Moe won the uneven bars, vault and all-around titles in the Region 1A meet last week. The meet also doubled as the Northeast Conference meet and Moe led the Cardinals to the team title by sweeping the individual events and all-around title.

Sadie Johnson, Estelline-Hendricks: Johnson won the balance beam and floor exercise and added a second-place finish in the all-around competition during the Region 1A meet.

Sterling Mertens, Britton-Hecla: Mertens finished fourth in the all-around competition in the Region 1A meet.

Briana McElhany and Shauna Evenson, Watertown: McElhany took sixth in the floor exercise and Evenson 10th in the balance beam in the Eastern South Dakota Conference meet.
