Waterway advisory in effect for Himmarshee Canal in Fort Lauderdale

The City of Fort Lauderdale on Sunday issued a waterway advisory for the Himmarshee Canal, as well as a small stretch of New River, after a sewer main break in the 1200 block of SE 2 Court.

Water-related activities — such as swimming, fishing, jet skiing, paddle boarding, kayaking and canoeing — should be avoided until further notice, the city said in a release.

The advisory is in effect for SE 1 Street and SE 2 Street to the north; New River to the south; Tarpon Drive to the east; and Federal Highway to the west. Traffic will be detoured until repairs are completed.

Fort Lauderdale residents with questions can contact the city’s 24-Hour Neighbor Call Center at 954-828-8000.
