Watkinsville man sentenced to federal pen in child porn case

A Watkinsville man convicted last year by a federal jury of possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material has been sentenced to serve time without parole in a federal prison.

U.S. District Judge C. Ashley Royal last week sentenced Eric Paul Krumm, 47, to 134 months in prison followed by 25 years on probation and $18,000 in restitution to the victims.

Krumm was found guilty of two counts of distributing child sexual abuse material and one count of possessing such material.

“We will not stop pursing justice on behalf of children victimized by criminal online predators,” U.S. Attorney Peter D. Leary said in a statement released from his office.

The charges stemmed from a 2016 investigation by Athens-Clarke police who found that downloads of child porn was returned to Krumm's computer, according to the release. Federal prosecutors said police seized 204 images and two videos.

Krumm is a former University of Georgia employee who was fired more than 20 years ago for hacking into computers of former co-workers, according to previous media reports on his arrest.

The child sexual abuse material in this recent case depicted prepubescent girls and included sexual assault and molestation.

A search warrant was executed by the GBI at Krumm’s residence on Feb. 15, 2017, and 11 electronics were seized, including laptops and hard drives, according to the release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Macon, where Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Solis handled the prosecution.

Krumm, a former systems administrator for a multinational corporation, downloaded and distributed child sexual abuse material through a peer-to-peer file sharing network, prosecutors said.
