FOND DU LAC - SSM Health Waupun Memorial Hospital was recently honored as a “Top Recommended Hospital” by Becker’s Hospital Review, based on patients’ likelihood to recommend.

Becker’s compiled the “Top Hospital” list by utilizing Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems data. The rating is based on data collected from October 2021 through September 2022.

“With every interaction, our team works hard to make sure that our patients and their families have the best experience possible,” DeAnn Thurmer, president, SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital/SSM Health Waupun Memorial Hospital, said in a news release. “Our teams are focused on continually improving our services to make sure everyone we serve receives exceptional health care every time they walk through our doors.”

There were 588 hospitals across the United States and District of Columbia honored. In Wisconsin, 34 hospitals were recognized.

City offices closed Sept. 4 in recognition of Labor Day

City of Fond du Lac offices in the City/County Government Center, 160 S. Macy St., will be closed Sept. 4 in recognition of Labor Day.

The Municipal Service Center also will be closed and garbage or recycling will not be collected. Sept. 4 garbage collections will be added to Sept. 5 routes. Residents are asked to have materials out by 5 a.m. Sept. 5.

Waste Management does the recycling collection and services will be moved back a day for the week.

Note that yard waste and brush may still be dropped off during the holiday hours.

Other closures include the Senior Center and city buses will not run Sept. 4. The public library will close for the weekend starting Sept. 2, reopening Sept. 5.

Share your garden bounty during potluck picnic

A Wild Feast Potluck will be held at 5 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Denevue Creek Shelter, Lakeside Park, Fond du Lac (east end of Harbor View Drive).

The gathering begins at 5 p.m. with food being served at 5:30 p.m. Those attending should take their own plate, cup, bowl, utensils and beverage. Alcohol is allowed in the shelter area.

The dish to pass or drink to share should include some wild ingredients or fresh produce from your garden. Take a list of the ingredients or the recipe so people can avoid allergy problems.

Red Cross holds blood drives to keep hospitals stocked

The American Red Cross has seen a shortfall in blood donations this summer, making it difficult to keep hospital shelves stocked. Of particular need are type O negative, type O positive, type B negative and type A negative blood donors, as well as platelet donors.

A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required. Individuals who are 17 years, weigh at least 110 pounds and are in general good health may be eligible to donate blood.

Local upcoming blood drives include the following:

  • Aug. 29: 12:30 to 5:30 p.m., Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church ELCA, 430 Griswold St., Ripon;

  • Aug. 30: noon to 5 p.m., Radisson Hotel and Conference Center, 625 W. Rolling Meadows Drive, Fond du Lac; and

  • Sept. 1: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., YMCA, 90 W. Second St., Fond du Lac.
