Wauwatosa restaurant Tosa Bowl and Bun is closing July 22
The owners of Tosa Bowl and Bun are planning to close the popular east side Wauwatosa restaurant on July 22.
The Venturi family announced the decision on Facebook on Friday afternoon, much to the dismay of several commenters on the post.
"To say we are proud to have been able to be part of the Wauwatosa community for 25 years is an understatement," the post said. "As hard as it was to come to this decision, we just believe it is time."
The restaurant, at 7212 W. North Ave., originally opened as Venturi's Market in 1997.
The basement of the building used to house a bowling alley, hence the name. Co-owner Sue Venturi remembers bowling at the alley as a child.
The menu now includes a wide variety of sandwiches, soups and entree items.
While the final day of operation will be Friday, July 22, the Venturis are planning a "celebration Saturday" from 6 to 10 p.m. July 23.
"Thank you a million times over for your patronage and support throughout the years. We will miss being part of your family celebrations and daily routines," the post added.
Sue Venturi said the decision was bittersweet.
"We're just super thrilled, and it's going to be a good thing for us and our family," Venturi said. "We raised our kids here, and they both worked for us, and I think it's just time; these last few years have been kind of brutal, and we survived all of that, which is amazing, but it just came time."
She's also excited that they can close on their own terms.
"We've just been super blessed," Venturi said.
