Wave of Aid Moves Across Jacksonville for Send Relief Serve Tour

Jacksonville’s Send Relief Serve Tour moves a wave of aid across Jacksonville today and tomorrow. The national event, that now includes Jacksonville as one of its seven stops on its 2022 multi-state service tour, is being held in partnership with local churches, city leaders and schools that have “identified tangible needs within their communities.”

Send Relief is a Southern Baptist one-stop shop compassion ministry that serves those in need both at home and abroad. Working in tadndem with the International Mission Board and the North American Mission Board, the ministry responds to natural disasters, cares for refugees, fights human trafficking, supports adoption and foster care efforts, and provides clean water and medical attention to struggling communities.

“We are committed to connecting people in need with people who care,” says the organization’s website.

Serve Tour, a leg of Send Relief, will provide a wave of relief “to those mostly inside the beltway” with projects and services that include giving gift bags to Duval County school principal in Duval County; serving meals to first responders including the Florida Highway Patrol and Jacksonville police and firefighters; working on landscaping projects at multiple schools in disadvantaged areas of the city; packing food to help provide weekend meals for children in need; and hosting block parties for communities struggling financially and socially.

“Actions often speak louder than words, and there’s no better way for local churches to express their love for the people of Jacksonville than to help the community in a tangible way like this,” said Troy Dixon, local Serve Tour project manager and pastor of Normandy Park Baptist Church. “I’m grateful that Send Relief chose to make Jacksonville part of its 2022 Serve Tour—it’s been unifying for our local churches and community leaders to work together to make a positive impact on our neighbors in need.”

Dixon said that not only do area city churches serve their community, they allow people to come together building relationships across racial and socio-economi barriers while serving others.

“The heart and motivation is genuine,” he said. “When they see different people working side by side serving in love it often has a positive impact.”

Serve Tour Jacksonville volunteers are being mobilized by Send Relief, a faith-based relief organization that works domestically and abroad “to meet needs and change lives through compassionate outreach events like this one.”

Dixon explained that infrastructure is brought in the help maximize the efforts, but the Churches involved are already performing these community services throughout the year.

“Through Send Relief Serve Tour, we’re excited to work together with volunteers and community leaders across Jacksonville who are ready to help make a difference in neighborhoods around the city as an expression of God’s love,” said Sammy Simmons, director of the Send Relief Serve Tour. “From packing meals to landscaping schools, we hope these acts of service will offer encouragement and help make a difference in people’s lives.”
