Wawa headed to Clarksville as new-wave of northeast chain spreads through Tennessee

The northeast favorite convenience store and sandwich counter Wawa is headed to Clarksville, just one of a few announcements this spring of the chain opening locations in Tennessee for the first time.

The Pennsylvania-based chain is eyeing the Bellevue suburb of Nashville as one of its first locations in the state likely to open in 2025.

The Clarksville-Montgomery County Regional Planning Commission approved Wawa's proposed plan for a Clarksville location during its June 27 session.

Located on Fort Campbell Blvd and Lady Marion Drive, Wawa's will feature a convenience store and gas station on two acres in Clarksville, plus its fan favorite ― fresh hoagies piled high.

The proposed plan shows a building area of 5,915 square feet where customers can get a hoagie, breakfast sandwich and more, 16 gas pumps and 49 parking spots.

The Clarksville location is one of many stores Wawa hopes to bring to the Volunteer State. With about 40 planned in total, including a Nashville location in 2025, the convenience store is ready to continue growing its long list of excited customers.

WaWa would sit on 2 acres in its proposed plan for Fort Campbell.

What is a Wawa?

Wawa, the Philadelphia-based gas and convenience store known for its East Coast-style hoagies and breakfast "Sizzli" sandwiches, first opened its doors in 1964 as a Food Market, an outlet for dairy products.

It didn't take long before the store continued to grow and spread to New Jersey and Delaware, opening its 100th store less than 10 years after opening its first store. Since then, the love for Wawa has continued to grow its cult-like following and now has more than 950 locations in just less than a dozen states and Washington D.C.

Going to Wawa's now, customers can choose from their large section of breakfast pastries, drinks such as coffees, lattes and lemonade, and its famous made-to-order hoagies.

Buc-ee's proposal was expected to be voted on this month but was deferred for another time.
