Wawa to open second Hamilton County store in Westfield

A Pennsylvania-based convenience store and gas station known for its hoagies is planning a second Hamilton County location in Westfield, just 5 miles west of its first location on State Road 32.

The 5,915 square-foot Wawa will be at the northeast corner of Spring Mill Road and State Road 32. The Westfield Advisory Plan Commission approved the site plan earlier this week but the city council must give final approval.

In February, Wawa announced their first Indiana store would be in Noblesville, at State Road 32 and Hazell Dell Road at the planned Midland Pointe housing and commercial development.

Plan Commission member Matthew Deck said the corner is vacant and will front a planned mixed-use development called Spring Mill Centre. It is also about a mile north of Spring Mill Station, another commercial area.

"Wawa has quite a history and seems to be popular," he said. "This will be a convenience at the location."

The Wawa openings are part of a larger expansion by the company into Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee.

Wawa has about 1,000 locations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and Washington, D.C.

The company is planning a news conference and introductory event next Thursday to discuss its expansion plans. It will be held at NCAA National Headquarters, 700 W. Washington St., Indianapolis.

The convenience store’s specialty is a wide variety of hot and cold hoagies.
