Colerain Township may have not one but two Wawa gas stations.

On Wednesday, the Colerain Board of Zoning Appeals approved variances that allowed several properties in White Oak to be used for a proposed Wawa site. The 2-acre site is on Blue Rock Road just south of Banning Road. It combines six addresses across from a United Dairy Farmers gas station.

The other Wawa will be built on Colerain Avenue near Struble Road, just off Interstate 275. The township granted the zoning certificate to that developer, but the project is still waiting for county permits. The former store there has been razed.

The variances come as the gas station chain is expanding throughout Ohio, starting in the Cincinnati area. The company is investing $420 million to open 60 stores statewide. The cult-favorite gas station and convenience store chain is known for its wide in-store selection and made-to-order eats.

According to Colerain development director David Miller, the next steps for developer McBride Dale Clarion will be to demolish the existing buildings on the Blue Rock Road site. Then the township will decide whether to move forward with a zoning certificate.
