'A way to give back': DJ DEMP celebrates 26 years of DEMP Week

DJ DEMP’s 26th Annual DEMP Week is in full swing as guests plan to gather Jan. 6-15 in celebration of what has become a Tallahassee proclaimed holiday and tradition in honor of DJ DEMP’s birthday.

A D.C. native, DEMP has spent the majority of his life in Tallahassee establishing strong roots and instilling positive impressions in the community. DEMP has worked as a DJ since the age of 13 and established himself as an internationally known celebrity DJ.

DJ DEMP is a member of legendary group Ghostown DJs best known for their classic '96 record “My Boo.” Having worked at 107.9 the beat in Valdosta, Georgia, 100.7 the beat and 105.7 the beat in Tallahassee, he’s also DJ’ed for entertainment giants like Luke, Trick Daddy, Lil Flip, David Banner, Trina, and Juvenile.

Not only has music been one of his biggest passions but also the art of philanthropy and charity. “DEMP Week is about a celebration of life and it’s a way to give back to my city and community. It’s always fun and exciting because there are events for people of all ages. It’s one of the most anticipated events of the year,” DJ DEMP said.

DEMP Week has not only attracted the attention of Tallahassee but people around the world who have flown in to participate in its weeklong events. With events like anti-bullying rallies, celebrity basketball games, bowling, sip and paints, concerts, and charity, it’s a festivity that has garnered attention as well as earned him humanitarian recognition.

DJ DEMP has received three proclamations from both the former mayor John Marks of Tallahassee as well as current Mayor John E. Dailey, via DEMP Week. DEMP’s efforts to give back are not just limited to DEMP Week.

It’s common for DEMP to use his social media following to announce community events that involve giving back, positive messages, and raising awareness for various charity based organizations and community initiatives.

This year in particular is extra special to DEMP, “This is the 26th year for me, and a huge milestone for everyone to come together and celebrate.” It’s been a beautiful journey planning every DEMP Week and I only see greater things for DEMP Week and its growth in the years to come,” DEMP said.
