Wayland car crash leaves one seriously hurt, some residents lose power

WAYLAND — A woman is lucky to be alive after a serious crash Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Cochituate Road and Green Way, a fire official said.

The woman was driving an SUV when she was involved in a crash with a large work truck at 2:21 p.m., Fire Chief Neil McPherson said.

"She's very fortunate," said McPherson. "She suffered serious injuries, but nothing that  will kill her."

The woman was taken to Lahey Medical Center in Burlington after the crash. The driver of the truck refused treatment.

Acting Police Chief Ed Burman said the two vehicles were traveling in the same direction on Cochituate Road when the SUV slowed to make a left turn onto Green Way.

"As of right now, it looks like the truck driver might not have seen the car making the left-hand turn and drove into it when it (the car) slowed down to turn," he said.

The crash caused several utility lines, including power lines, to come down.

"That was a concern because it could be a danger to firefighters," McPherson said.

The road was closed for several hours and many nearby homes lost power.
