Wayland women, men sweep Oklahoma Panhandle State in SAC play

PLAINVIEW — No. 9 Wayland Baptist walloped Oklahoma Panhandle State 81-35 Tuesday night in Sooner Athletic Conference women's basketball behind 17 points and 11 rebounds from Jenna Cooper and an 11-point, 10-rebound game from Kaitlyn Edgemon.

Kaylee Edgemon added 13 points and nine rebounds, and Angel Hayden had 15 points, six rebounds and five steals.

Next up for the Flying Queens (19-2, 11-1) is a game at 6 p.m. Thursday at Mid-America Christian (16-2, 9-2), which has won seven games in a row and is unbeaten at home this season.

Cassia McCaskill scored 14 points for OPSU (4-10, 2-10).

PLAINVIEW — Parrish Hewitt racked up 22 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists, leading Wayland Baptist over Oklahoma Panhandle State in Sooner Athletic Conference action.

Hewitt, a 6-foot-3 senior from Memphis, Tennessee, joined the Pioneers last week as a transfer from Northwestern Oklahoma State. He's been Wayland's leading scorer in each of his three games with the Pioneers.

Wayland's last known triple-double came from Ty Harrelson in a first-round victory against Columbia (Mo.) in the 2003 NAIA Tournament.

R.J. Mason, Jordan Brannon and Thad Udoh chipped in 14 points apiece for Wayland (9-10, 5-7) and Jaxon Recer had 14 rebounds and eight points.

Jalen Thomas poured in 31 points for OPSU (7-10, 4-8).
