Wayne commissioners OK vehicle purchases, dispatch contracts with Canaan Twp., Smithville

The county Child Services Enforcement Agency was recognized by the state for excellence in services in two areas.

WOOSTER - Wayne County commissioners signed off on a memorandum on how child abuse cases are handled.

The memorandum was issued by the state, and addresses how to properly address suspected cases of child abuse when they are reported, according to Children Services Board Director Deanna Nichols-Stika, which includes reporting to the Children Service Board.

In other matters commissioners recently:

  • Approved a resolution certifying an agreement with Evinto Solutions of Queen Creek, Arizona, to use licensed Optima software to help with court appointed special advocates for the Volunteer Guardian ad Litem program in Wayne County Juvenile Court. The software would be used for training volunteers.

  • Approved a resolution giving authority to renew contracts for dispatch services through Justice Center Communications for Canaan Township and the Village of Smithville, with the agreements beginning Jan. 1 and lasting through Dec. 31, 2028. All townships and villages will be receive five-year contracts for dispatching services.

  • Approved a resolution to purchase a 2021 Ford Escape for $22,000 and a 2022 Ford Escape for $23,500 from Pallotta Ford of Wooster, while also authorizing the trade-in of a pair of 2007 Ford Fusions and a 2009 Ford Fusion that are no longer needed or fit for public use. The Escapes will be used by Wayne County Municipal Court.

  • Approved a resolution denoting a change order in the price of the project agreement with McConnell Contracting of West Lafayette for the Honeytown Road bridge replacement project. The change is a decrease in the original price for erosion control and reinforcement of concrete, bringing the final total down $645,630 to $638,100.

  • Approved a resolution denoting a change order in the price of the project contract with V.O. Menuez & Son of Millersburg for the Ruff Road bridge replacement over Killbuck Creek between Franchester Road and Overton Road in Congress Township. The change is a decrease in the cost, denoting the quantities of materials needed for the bridge replacement were different from the original proposal. The change in value is decrease from $815,935.50 down to $809,443.30.

  • Issued a proclamation recognizing January as Human Trafficking Awareness Month in Wayne County.
