Wayne County commissioners seek state grants for airport master plan

WOOSTER — Wayne County commissioners approved two resolutions to apply for state grants to help create a new master plan for the Wayne County Airport.

The county will apply for an Ohio Airport Improvement Program grant, with a matching application for a General Aviation Airports program grant from the Ohio Department of Transportation.

The airport has been in service since 1963. ODOT administers funds for financial assistance to public airports in the state. The Wayne County funding would go toward an airport master plan, which is required to be updated every 10 years.

Funds would be earmarked for the purchase of snow removal equipment, pavement maintenance and other projects.

The contract awarded for the master plan study for the airport was for the amount of $39,885, according to Dan Starcher, county public communications coordinator.

In another matter at recent commissioner meetings, the county approved a resolution for Community House Impact Preservation (CHIP) funds to be used for rehabilitation of a home at 113 S. Maple St., West Salem.

The home is owned by Karen Campbell, who agreed to a $83,470 mortgage in order to receive the housing improvement funds.

Also, an agreement was reached with the county and the villages of West Salem and Doylestown to renew contracts for dispatch service through the Wayne County Justice Center. The agreement runs Jan. 1, 2024-Dec. 31, 2028.
