New Wayne County CVB director is Ashland native

Robert (Rob) Wells has assumed the position of executive director of the Wayne County Convention and Visitors Bureau. He replaces retired director Marty Starkey.

Wells previously served as the executive director of the Savannah Sports Council, in Savannah, Georgia, where he led the sports tourism efforts and managed their events, including the Enmarket Savannah Bridge Run, the Enmarket Savannah Hockey Classic and the Publix Savannah Women’s Half Marathon.

In 2019, the Savannah Sports Council awarded Wells the Event Marketing Campaign of the Year award from the National Association of Sports Commissions.

Before his position with the Savannah Sports Council, Wells managed the sports tourism efforts in Florida for the Visit Sarasota County campaign, the Naples, Marco Island and the Everglades Convention and Visitors Bureaus.

Wells and his wife, Megan, have two daughters, Rose and Josephine. He is a U.S. Coast Guard veteran and served in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is an Ashland native, a graduate of Baldwin-Wallace University and a high school football referee.
