Wayne County Fair set for Aug. 4-12; premium books available

The 161st Wayne County Fair is set for Friday, Aug. 4, through Saturday, Aug. 12, at the historic fairgrounds a mile north of Honesdale. Premium books for those wishing to enter any of the many contests are now available.

The Wayne County Fair Premium Book includes rules and regulations for every contest, guidelines for animal care, showmanship standards, information for each of the 23 departments, entry forms and a judging schedule. There are contests for anyone who likes to take photographs, bake, sew, garden and make crafts.

Premium Books are available free and serve as your entry form. The book is available both online and printed.

Some of the locations where you may pick up a hard copy include Dirlam Bros. Lumber Company, Honesdale Farm & Garden (AGWAY), Wayne County Visitor's Center, Tractor Supply, Delaware Valley Farm and Garden, Callicoon Supply, Sullivan County Democrat, Cochecton Mills, Shaffers Hardware, Hunter's Gallery, Honesdale National Bank's Hamlin branch, Waymart Milling and Bethany Farm & Garden.

Lots to look forward to

The nine-day fair includes a full schedule of entertainment, thrill shows, harness racing, fireworks, demolition derby, a large monster truck show and free musical grandstand shows with some national cover bands. There are 26 thrill rides and an expanding kiddie land.

Agriculture remains essential, keeping to tradition with 4-H animal shows and judging. There are daily agricultural events like horse, tractor, and truck pulls, kids pedal pulls and even a pony pull, and the Wayne County Farm Museum exhibits.

The Wayne County features a pay-one-price model of $12 per day, per person, which includes rides, parking, exhibits and most entertainment.

Half price admission is offered on Friday, Aug. 4, and Wednesday Aug. 9, to seniors 62 and over and for active military personnel and veterans.
