Wayne County's COVID cases fall 37.5%; Indiana cases fall 4.4%
Indiana reported 14,888 new cases of coronavirus in the week ending Sunday, down 4.4% from the previous week. The previous week had 15,576 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19.
Indiana ranked 27th among the states where coronavirus was spreading the fastest on a per-person basis, a USA TODAY Network analysis of Johns Hopkins University data shows. In the latest week coronavirus cases in the United States decreased 14.2% from the week before, with 781,487 cases reported. With 2.02% of the country's population, Indiana had 1.91% of the country's cases in the last week. Across the country, 13 states had more cases in the latest week than they did in the week before.

Wayne County reported 180 cases and one death in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 288 cases and zero deaths. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 20,656 cases and 341 deaths.
Preble County reported 101 cases and zero deaths in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 97 cases and zero deaths. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 10,252 cases and 200 deaths.
Union County reported eight cases and zero deaths in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported six cases and zero deaths. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 2,122 cases and 22 deaths.
Randolph County reported 59 cases and one death in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 60 cases and zero deaths. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 6,296 cases and 150 deaths.
​ Across Indiana, cases fell in 53 counties, with the best declines in Vanderburgh County, with 543 cases from 713 a week earlier; in Lake County, with 942 cases from 1,111; and in Porter County, with 335 cases from 448. ​

​Within Indiana, the worst weekly outbreaks on a per-person basis were in Knox County with 413 cases per 100,000 per week; Howard County with 403; and Cass County with 364. The Centers for Disease Control says high levels of community transmission begin at 100 cases per 100,000 per week.
Adding the most new cases overall were Marion County, with 2,086 cases; Lake County, with 942 cases; and Allen County, with 898. Weekly case counts rose in 38 counties from the previous week. The worst increases from the prior week's pace were in Allen, Marion and Johnson counties.

In Indiana, ​ 78 ​ people were reported dead of COVID-19 in the week ending Sunday. In the week before that, 45 people were reported dead.
A total of 1,843,622 people in Indiana have tested positive for the coronavirus since the pandemic began, and 24,184 people have died from the disease, Johns Hopkins University data shows. In the United States 92,112,922 people have tested positive and 1,033,556 people have died.

Hospitals in 24 states reported more COVID-19 patients than a week earlier, while hospitals in 24 states had more COVID-19 patients in intensive-care beds. Hospitals in 33 states admitted more COVID-19 patients in the latest week than a week prior, the USA TODAY analysis of U.S. Health and Human Services data shows.
