Wayne Heart Walk invites participants to walk to save lives - what to know

WOOSTER — The American Heart Association, the world’s leading voluntary health organization dedicated to building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke, is inviting Wayne County to its premier event to boost physical and mental health through healthy habits while supporting the lifesaving mission.

Join friends and neighbors Thursday, Sept. 7, for the Wayne Heart Walk. Participants, teams and leashed pets are invited to Oak Hill Park (Donald and Alice Noble Trail) to celebrate heart and stroke survivors, raise lifesaving funds and encourage physical activity. Wayne Heart Walk is among 300 Heart Walks held in communities across the nation. Nearly 1 million people walk each year for a singular mission, to cure heart disease and stroke.

This year's Wayne County Heart Walk will be held at Oak Hill Park on Sept. 7. The walks will be led by Mike Davidson, CEO of Buehler’s Fresh Foods.

The Wayne Heart Walk festivities kick off at 5 pm with THE Healthy for Good festival. The youngest walkers can spend time in the Kids Zone. Participants can take part in health screenings and hands-only CPR demonstrations.

The walk begins at 5:45 p.m. There is a 2-mile course with hills throughout the park.

“I believe all Wayne County community members deserve local access to high-quality heart care,” said Davidson in a news release. “When you support and participate in the Wayne Heart Walk, you are helping to ensure that more cardiovascular research is funded, more hospitals administer the highest standard of care, and that fewer people suffer and die from heart disease and stroke. I walk to save lives, and you can too.”
