Wayne State University resident physicians union officially recognized

The newly formed Alliance of Resident Physicians (ARP) received official recognition on Wednesday as the union representing residents who work for Wayne State University, according to a news release.

ARP is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers/AFL-CIO.

APR's "majority support was verified by a neutral third party," stated the release. "The union received official notice of recognition from the University administration under the cooperative union organizing policy adopted by the Wayne State board."

The recognition allows union members to begin negotiations for improved worker and patient conditions.

ARP aims to "unite resident physicians across Metro Detroit, with this group of Wayne State residents joining their colleagues who work for Detroit Education & Research at the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) as charter members of the union," according to the union.
