Wayne SWCD taking tree orders: Douglas Fir, Norway Spruce, Nut Pack and more

WOOSTER − The Wayne Soil and Water Conservation District is taking orders for tree seedlings.

This year the available species are: Dawn Redwood, 12-18” (seedlings), $20; Douglas Fir, 18-24” (seedlings), $15; Norway Spruce, 18-24” (seedlings), $15; and Scotch Pine, 10-16” (seedlings), $10. The trees are available in packs of 10.

The district also is offering three pre-bundled pack options. Pre-bundled packs have 10 trees. The Nut Pack, consists of three each of Hazelnut and Butternut and two each of Northern Pecan and Black Walnut at $30 per pack. The Pollinator Pack that consists of two each of Red Osier Dogwood, Choke Cherry, American Plum, Meadowsweet and Pasture Rose is $30 per pack. The Wildlife Pack consists of two each of American Hazelnut, American Plum, Ninebark, Red Osier Dogwood and Swamp White Oak at $20 per pack.

A Scotch Pine seedling pack can be purchased for $10 with proceeds being donated to local elementary school students.

Marking flags are available in bundles of 10 at $3 per bundle.

The deadline for ordering tree packets is March 10. Tree pick-up date is noon-4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 13, at the Wayne County fairgrounds at the sheep barn. Visit www.wayneswcd.org updated pick-up information.

All stock is state and federal inspected. The SWCS reserves the right to make reasonable substitutions based on availability of certain species.

Due to several fungal diseases, such as white pine needle damage, Eastern White Pine will not be offered this year. Colorado Blue Spruce is also no longer recommended for planting in Ohio due to fungal infections.

Payment must be included with orders (cash or check), which will be processed on a first-come basis. Quantities are limited, and early ordering is encouraged.
