Wayne Technical Center class fall class list includes, office, dental, cosmetology, more

SMITHVILLE – Wayne County’s Ohio Technical Center is accepting applications for fall enrollment in programs and courses designed to help individuals prepare for in-demand jobs.

The Career Center has many programs starting to help prepare adults for a first career, career change or career advancement. The following are Bright Outlook careers as indicated on onetonline.org, that can be prepare for at Wayne County Schools Career Center:

  • Bookkeeping, accounting and auditing clerks , office clerks, general, receptionists and information clerks, and secretaries and administrative assistants, except legal, medical, and executive administrative office professional with an accounting concentration program begins Sept. 18. Classes are 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday.

  • Dental assistants: Dental assisting program begins Sept. 12. Classes are held 5-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday.

  • Hairdressers, hairstylists and cosmetologists: Cosmetology program begins Oct. 2. Classes are held 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday and two Saturdays per month 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

  • Health information technologists and medical registrars and medical secretaries and administrative assistants: Administrative Office Professional with a medical office concentration program begins Sept. 18. Classes are held 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday.

  • Industrial machinery mechanics, maintenance and repair workers, general: Manufacturing technologies with a concentration in industrial maintenance begins Aug. 28 with classes offered various times Monday-Friday evenings.

  • Medical assistants and phlebotomists: Medical assisting program starts Sept. 18. Classes are 4-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday. Phlebotomy is taught within the medical assisting orogram or can be taken independently beginning Jan. 25.

  • Nurse practitioners: Practical nursing begins day and evening cohorts in September.

  • Nursing assistants: Nurse assistant courses are three weeks and have multiple start dates per year.

  • Police and sheriff's patrol officers: Law Enforcement Training Academy will start Aug. 14 and run Monday-Thursday evenings and some weekends.

  • Welders, cutters, solderers and brazers, welding, soldering and brazing machine setters, operators, and tenders, structural metal fabricators and fitters: Manufacturing technologies with a concentration in welding begins Aug. 28 with classes offered various times Monday-Friday evenings. A fast track welding class begins mid-September.

Free academic and career readiness classes are offered for adults to brush up on academic skills through Aspire. Opportunities include basic academic remediation for specific content areas (may be eligible for the review even if someone has a high school diploma), GED or high school equivalency prep or focus on the adult diploma program for individuals 20 or older who can earn a technical credential along with a diploma from Ohio Department of Education.

For those who desire to learn practical skills while improving academic content knowledge the following free courses are offered: Customer service representative, certified manufacturing associate, Microsoft Word and  IT fundamentals.

Customized training, apprenticeship classes and assessments are designed to meet the needs of business and industry partners in Wayne and Holmes counties. The school welcomes industry leaders to attend the open house scheduled 4-6:30 p.m. July 19 to see the labs and explore solutions to workforce needs.
