Waynesboro man sentenced to federal prison for meth possession

A Waynesboro man will serve more than 12 years in federal prison for drug trafficking and weapons offenses.

U.S. District Court Judge Christopher C. Conner sentenced Johnathan Fisher, 40, on Monday to 151 months in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania and the Department of Justice.

A search warrant was executed May 4, 2020, on a home on Fairview Avenue in Waynesboro, according to a report from Waynesboro Police Department. Fisher was arrested three days later after being indicted on a charge of possession with the intent to distribute over 50 grams of methamphetamine, according to the Department of Justice. The indictment also accused him of possessing a Remington .380 handgun and a Stevens 12-gauge shotgun, despite previous criminal convictions prohibiting him from possessing a firearm.

Franklin County District Attorney Matt Fogal released a statement touting his office's partnership with the FBI and the Department of Justice. Local detectives are active with Project Safe Neighborhoods, an initiative to reduce violent crime and gun violence of which Fisher's case was part, and the Joint Terrorism Task Force.

The case was investigated by the FBI, Waynesboro Police Department and the Franklin County Drug Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jaime M. Keating was the prosecutor.

"These partnerships with our very professional and dedicated colleagues are unwavering and will continue, as they serve the local community as a force multiplier and truly assist in our primary mission to keep all of our citizens safe and secure," Fogal said.
